Two seasons means we can finally let the kitchen breathe. Some stories need more than one service to cook. (An illustrative line from the show's fictional showrunner, written for our launch edition.)

What We Hope to See in Seasons 4 and 5

We have a wish list, and we are not shy about it. First, let the second location become a real storyline. Carmen trying to be in two kitchens at once is a comedy goldmine and a heartbreak waiting to happen. Second, give Teo's secret job hunt a proper payoff rather than a one-episode blowup. Third, more Rollie. Always more Rollie.

We would also love a little more of Chicago itself. The show is at its most charming when it steps outside, whether that is a dawn trip to the fish market or a late-night drive along the lake. A longer runway gives the writers space for those quieter, character-first detours that make a show feel lived in.

Most of all, we hope the double order does not mean the show plays it safe. Kitchen Brigade works because it is messy. Plates break, people yell, somebody cries in the walk-in. Security is a gift, but the best kitchens still run a little hot.

The Bottom Line

What a two-season order lets the writers do

Most comedies live one renewal at a time. Writers plan a season, leave a few doors open, and hope the network lets them walk through. A two-season order changes the rhythm. With seasons 4 and 5 both on the books, the Kitchen Brigade writers can finally plant ideas in one year and pay them off in the next, without worrying that the restaurant will close mid-sentence.

That matters for a show built on slow-burn relationships. The tension between Carmen Dosu and her sous chef has simmered since the pilot, and the question of whether the restaurant can survive a second location has been teased for two finales running. A longer runway means those threads can be braided together properly instead of rushed into a single cliffhanger.

It also gives the crew room to breathe. Characters who were sketched quickly in early seasons, like the pastry station's quiet perfectionist and the front-of-house manager who keeps the dining room calm while the kitchen burns, can now get full episodes of their own. The bottle-episode format the show used for its fan-favourite wedding service is likely to return, because it lets the writers focus on a handful of people under pressure.

Back to the Chicago kitchen

The show's sense of place is part of its appeal. The narrow pass, the walk-in fridge where characters go to cry or scheme, and the alley where staff take their breaks have become as recognisable as any of the cast. The production is returning to the same Chicago-set kitchen for season 4, and early chatter suggests at least one storyline will take the brigade outside it, whether for a pop-up, a food festival or a disastrous catering job.

Expect the pace to stay frantic. Kitchen Brigade episodes run around thirty minutes, and the show has always used that tight runtime to its advantage, cutting between stations like a ticket rail on a busy Saturday. That brevity is a big reason it works so well as a weeknight watch: one episode is a perfect palate cleanser after a long day, and three in a row never feels like homework.

Why this renewal is good news for viewers

A double renewal is a vote of confidence, but it is also a promise to the audience that the story will be allowed to land. Fans who have been burned by shows cancelled on a cliffhanger can settle in without bracing for heartbreak. On our renewal scorecard, Kitchen Brigade now sits firmly in the Renewed column, and our editors' buzz meter, which is an opinion and not a ratings measure, puts it near the top of the board.

This launch-edition story is illustrative: Kitchen Brigade, Northlight+ and every character named here are fictional.

A two-season renewal is a vote of confidence, and Kitchen Brigade has earned it on the strength of its ensemble and its big, bruised heart. Season 4 is aimed at summer 2027, season 5 will follow, and Carmen Dosu still has a lot of tickets to fire. Until then, now is the perfect time for a rewatch. Start with the wedding episode, keep a snack nearby, and try not to shout "behind" at your roommates. We will update this story as soon as Northlight+ shares dates or casting news.

Launch edition note: this is an illustrative story. The series, network, people and events are fictional. See our editorial standards.
