Kelce, 36, finished the NFL season on a relative high as he became only the third tight end in league history to surpass 13,000 receiving yards.
He admitted it was an easy call for him to run it back with the Chiefs for 2025, but this offseason paints a completely different picture.
On his first appearance on his podcast New Heights since the end of the season, Kelce let some major details slip.
The most notable statement was when he discussed how the Chiefs’ season ended.
Kelce commented, “It’s a tough way to go out. Especially with the amount of success and the standard that you hold the team and yourself to throughout the season.”
Those first five words might be talking about the Chiefs’ missing out on the playoffs, but there is clearly underlying tones there.
He also referred to losing ‘1-5’ [Patrick Mahomes] to an ACL tear being a major factor of the end of the season being so difficult.
There was another five-word message that Kelce gave which was clearly more in a joking manner, but also true.
He kicked off the podcast by saying to his brother Jason Kelce, “I am officially jobless, Jason.”
Kelce’s contract expired at the end of this season having signed a new two-year deal after winning the Super Bowl in 2023.

Ultimately Travis said the decision hinges on what his body is telling him once the dust has settled.
He is heeding his brother’s advice to take some time before making a retirement call.
Kelce added, “There’s a lot of love for the game still, and I don’t think I’ll ever lose that.
“It’s a tough thing to navigate but at the same time I think if my body can heal up and rest and I can feel confident that I can go out there and give it another 18-, 20-, 21-week run, I think I would do it in a heartbeat.
“I think right now it’s just finding that answer and see how the body feels after all this settles down.”
One thing is for sure: If Kelce wants to pursue a career in broadcasting and hang up the cleats, he could easily command an eight-figure salary.
