Enola Holmes 3 first look teases plot twist fans ‘didn’t know they needed’

Former Stranger Things and The Witcher stars are reuniting again for a third outing in Netflix’s comfort detective film

Images from the latest Enola Holmes film released by Netflix have got fans anticipating a big twist.

The streamer has dropped the very first look at the latest instalment in the Enola Holmes film series. Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown returns in the titular role of the unique take on the classic Sherlock Holmes tales.

Both films in the series have been well received so far with the 2020 debut earning 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, while the 2022 follow up earned an even higher 93% score. It means the third outing has a significantly high standard to meet for critics and fans alike.

They are in turn based upon the young adult fiction series of detective novels by American author Nancy Springer, known as The Enola Holmes Mysteries. Each feature Enola Holmes as the 14-year-old sister of an already famous Sherlock Holmes. The series borrows characters and settings from the established canon of Sherlock Holmes originated by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle but is largely a reimagining.

Netflix’s synopsis for the third film entry sees adventure chase detective Enola Holmes to Malta, where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before when the film releases on July 1.

Adolescence creator Jack Thorne returns to pen the script once again, while Brown is joined in the cast by former Superman and The Witcher star Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, along with Himesh Patel as Dr Watson, Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes and House of Guinness star Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury.

According to Brown, Enola “feels much more defined but still evolving. She’s built something for herself, which is amazing, but she’s also questioning what she wants next. I think that’s something so many people can relate to. There’s this pressure of, ‘Ok, I’ve achieved this…but who am I now?’”

She adds: “I’ve grown up alongside her, so exploring those themes felt really personal. It’s about balancing independence with love, ambition with vulnerability, and figuring out what parts of yourself you want to hold onto versus what you’re ready to let change. That felt really honest to play.”

New images from the film released show a sun-soaked new locale, Enola juggling her potential nuptials to Lord Tewkesbury and being forced to escape a deadly-looking fire. However, one shot of Enola wearing what looks like a wedding dress has caught the attention of many fans.

As one person states: “Millie Bobby Brown in a wedding dress for Enola Holmes 3 is the plot twist we didn’t know we needed. Can’t wait for the chaos.”

Another agreed: “Finally some good news today Enola in a veil though? The chaos this girl is about to cause in that dress… I’m seated.”

While someone else predicted: “That wedding veil shot has me so curious, I guess this is a fake wedding for a case, doubt it’s a real deal.”

Meanwhile, one fan posted: “Enola Holmes 3 looks incredible! Millie serving absolute main character energy in that veil, and the chemistry with Tewkesbury is still unmatched. Cavill’s Sherlock hitting the streets too? This is going be the best one yet. Darker vibe has me hyped July 1st can’t come soon.”
