Lopez arrives into the fight coming off a victory against Jamaine Ortiz by unanimous decision in February.

He takes on Claggett as he targets another win as champion, in what is expected to be the precursor to bigger fights.

Names such as Devin HaneyIsaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and Liam Paro, who are the champions of the category in the other divisions, have been mentioned as possible opponents.

“This is going to be a tough fight. A lot of people look at Claggett‘s record and think I’m going to fight a nobody, but he hasn’t lost in three years,” Lopez said.

“He’s fought ex-champions, he always comes to fight and throws a lot of punches. I need to be in good condition against a fighter like him. I can’t overlook him, get overconfident and play with him. I know this fight will be a great fight for all my people in Miami.

Lopez praises Claggett’s thirst for glory

At 35 years old, this is his Claggett‘s major world title shot, thanks to a nine-fight winning streak.

None of them were particularly high profile, with one fight in Mexico and eight in Canada, although he does have a significant record against Latino boxers.
