Chris Eubank Jr. wants to be paid accordingly, which could be an issue.

Canelo Alvarez during the Jaime Munguia fight.
As the days go by, so does all the time that Canelo Alvarez has had to find his next opponent. His fight against Jaime Munguia is nearly two and a half months in the rearview mirror, and a mid-September date for his next fight has been all but finalized.
Now, the question comes down to who he will fight. David Benavidez appears completely out of the picture, while Edgar Berlanga or Jermall Charlo have been the strongest links.

But a dark horse has emerged recently: Chris Eubank Jr. The 34-year-old European is a former world champion, but he doesn’t quite have the name power in the United States. He certainly does overseas, but the fight would theoretically happen in Vegas.

Money is holding up Chris Eubank Jr vs Canelo Alvarez fight confirmation

For a fight to happen, the two have to agree on financial terms first. And it sounds like that’s what’s holding everything back, according to Eubank’s promoter Ben Shalom.

I think for Chris, he’s such a big name in the UK, every time he fights he generates interest and money… if I’m honest it’s not down to the Canelo side, it’s more Chris. There’s a certain amount he’s used to earning and he wants to get what he deserves from a fight against someone like Canelo.

It’s a bit of a surprising statement from Eubank’s promoter. A fight against Canelo has historically been a nice cash-grab for opposing fighters. In fact, Canelo went viral for his “payday” moment during a press conference while talking trash to Demetrius Andrade.

Eubank is still a big draw on the other side of the pond, but passing up a fight against Canelo would be missing an opportunity that thousands of boxers dream about.
