The Polish woman who claims she is Madeleine McCann has shared DNA test results she says “strongly support” her claim that she might be related to Madeleine’s father, Gerry McCann.
Julia Wandelt (23) posted the DNA results on Instagram, claiming the test was done by an unnamed “world expert”.
She claims the expert analysed hair from the holiday apartment in Portugal where three-year-old Madeleine was last seen before she disappeared in May 2007, along with saliva from the bed quilt at the location. Julia claims the test shows her DNA is a 69.23% match with Madeleine’s.
“The genetic evidence strongly supports that Gerry McCann could be Julia Wandelt’s biological father, as the data aligns perfectly with a parent-child relationship,” read documents she posted.
Julia has been claiming to be Madeleine since February 2023, when she posted to Instagram under the account name ‘@IAmMadeleineMcCann’ , saying she was the missing daughter of Kate and Gerry McCann. She later apologised, saying she ‘regretted’ the entire ordeal.
Julia’s parents have dismissed her claims as nonsense and a source close to Julia described her as “a very disturbed young woman”.
While Julia insists that she’s Madeleine – or at least related to her – and claims she was never shown childhood photos or a birth certificate, her mother, Dorota Wandelt-Cholewinski, has rubbished her allegations.
“Her mother, Dorota, is just beside herself,” the source said. “She can’t believe how this has snowballed. Julia is very sick and Dorota just wants her to get the help she needs.”
“Julia just needs to be home with her family so that she can get the treatment that she needs,” they added.
Dorota is reportedly devastated that the media attention has brought renewed distress to Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry.

An earlier investigation into Julia’s claims by private investigator Dr Fia Johansson reportedly showed that Julia’s DNA results indicated she is “entirely Polish”.
“I can understand as a psychologist why she didn’t want to believe her mother is her real mother,” Johansson said previously.
“But I told her that she must stop this fixation now that she is Madeleine McCann and accept the result of the DNA test and start to move on with her life.”

The McCanns continue to share updates on the Find Madeleine website, expressing gratitude for ongoing support while acknowledging the pain of living in uncertainty.
“We know the love and hope for Madeleine and the will to find her, even after so many years, remains and we are truly thankful for that,” they said.
