Devin Haney, super lightweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), announced that he will take some time away from the ring to rest and will only return when Ryan García has served his suspension for doping to make the rematch.

In a post on social media on X, formerly known as Twitter, Haney made his decision known after Top Rank won the bid with a $2.42 million offer for the defense of his 140-pound title with his mandatory Sandor Martín, since Matchroom Boxing did not participate.

“I’m going to take some time, spend some of my money, travel the world and I’ll come back in two years after Ryan (Garcia) is suspended and we can fight again,” he wrote on the platform.

After hearing the news, Haney asked the New York State Athletic Commission to change the result of the fight to a victory and thus regain his undefeated record. In fact, his father Bill Haney told ESPN that he would not negotiate any duel until a decision was made in the King Ry doping case and the defeat is annulled.
