Dana White was notably restrained with his comments about the rescheduling of Jake Paul and Mike Tyson’s controversial boxing match.

The UFC CEO is close friends with boxing icon Tyson, who this week was recommended by doctors to take a break from training after an ulcer flareup. Paramedics were called aboard a flight from Miami to Los Angeles to tend to the boxer, who later claimed to be feeling 100 per cent.

But it was confirmed on Friday night by event organisers Most Valuable Promotions that the fight would be pushed back into the latter end of the year. The decision was made in order to allow Tyson to fully recover and return to full training camp.

Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson postponed after medical emergency

Tyson’s medical issue was first reported by In Touch Weekly during the week, leading to immediate concern from fans and experts. But shortly after the story broke, Tyson tweeted: “Now feeling 100 per cent even though I don’t need to be to beat Jake Paul.”

However, the promotion decided not to take any risks and decided to push the fight back, with Paul teasing a fight date between October and December. The new date is set to be announced before next Friday.

A press release from the company read: “During a follow up consultation on Thursday with medical professionals on his recent ulcer flare up, the recommendation is for Mike Tyson to do minimal to light training over the next few weeks and then return to full training with no limitations.

“Both Mike and Jake are in agreement that it is only fair to ensure that both athletes have equal training time to prepare for this important match and are able to compete at the highest level.

“The health and well-being of athletes is our top priority, and we fully support Mike in taking the necessary time to allow him to perform at the level he expects of himself.

“Mike is expected to return to his full training schedule in the coming weeks and is eager to get back in the ring. MVP anticipates rescheduling the match to later this year at AT&T Stadium, and we look forward to an exciting and well-prepared contest between these two exceptional athletes.”

Dana White remains coy with muted response to Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson postponement

Speaking after UFC 302 in Newark on Saturday night, White insisted that while he knew a lot of the details regarding Tyson’s status that he wouldn’t be commenting on the issue. He noted that the boxing legend doesn’t like when he gives his thoughts on issues such as his current day fighting career.

“Obviously I know a lot about it,” White told the media when asked at his thoughts at the post-fight press conference. “But I’m not going to talk about it publicly.

“Yeah, for the first time probably ever in my life I have no comment on something. That’s Mike’s world and he gets p***ed at me every time I talk about that stuff. Good for him and he’ll figure it out.”

White had previously stated his distaste for the event, telling media at UFC 299: “He gets mad when I do this, but Mike’s 60, man. I don’t know, what do you guys think about it? Who gives a s*** what I think? It’s not my fight.

“I love Mike Tyson personally as a friend, and he’s one of my favorite athletes of all time. I don’t know. Let’s see what he can go in there and put together a training camp and come in.

“I don’t like to see guys fighting at [58]. It’d be a 31-year age difference during that fight. You guys know what I think of that stuff.”
