Euro 2024 Milestones: Guler Third Teenager after Rooney and Ronaldo, Gakpo Joins Bergkamp and Van Persie

The Round of 16 in Euro 2024 has come to an end on Tuesday with two more teams booking their spots in the quarterfinals. Cody Gakpo scored his third goal of the tournament as he played a pivotal role in Netherlands beating Romania 3-0.

In the other match, Turkey, with the help of their goalkeeper Mert Gunok, clinched a last-eight spot after beating Austria 2-1.

Netherlands’ Cody Gakpo became his country’s youngest player to score and assist in a knockout match against in a major tournament since Marco van Basten did it in the final of Euro 1988 — 23 years, 238 days.

Gakpo is also one of the four Dutch players with 3+ World Cup goals and 3+ Euro goals, joining the likes of Dennis Bergkamp, Robin van Persie, Memphis Depay.

Only Pierre van Hooijdonk (10) scored more goals for the Netherlands as a substitute than Donyell Malen (8 – along with Klaas Jan Huntelaar). Malen is also the first-ever Dutch player to score twice after coming off the bench in Euro history.
