Mashup image of Dana White and Jake Paul

Jake Paul has taken most of the box office and ticket sales from promotions like Showtime

Those who have followed boxing over the last 20 years will notice there has been a recent landscape change between promotions. There was a time in which HBO and Showtime Boxing were the kings of the game as they raked up numbers that are even hard to replicate today. Surely suffering a global pandemic and flirting with a recession had nothing to do with that. But according to Dana White, the main culprit of this downfall by the two giants is Jake Paul’s fault? For 37 years, Showtime Boxing were at the very top of the boxing game but during that time, other promotions emerged that included oil money from Saudi Arabia. But Dana White wants to keep his vitriol against Jake Paul for personal reasons.

UFC President Dana White was recently on the Shannon Sharpe show to talk about combat sports and how he managed to make a billion dollar business. In the exchange, you could see a more relaxed Dana White who was able to speak his mind as if he never does. Sharpe asked Dana if he believed Jake Paul was doing all that money, which is around $80 million per event with purse included. Here’s what Dana White said about Jake: “Yeah, the kid’s out there, he is doing his thing, he is making money. I don’t know what he is really making. I believe if he was making the money he says he is making, Showtime Boxing wouldn’t have gone out of business.”

But why does Dana White seem to hate Jake Paul so much? He is even in business with his brother Logan Paul. The answer to that is very simple, Jake Paul is trying to take over the MMA business from Dana by competing against him. White is being reactionary to anybody who threatens his business and that is exactly what Jake Paul has been doing for a few years. Another aspect of Jake Paul’s interactions with Dana is that ‘The Problem Child’ has always spoken against the fighter pay issue the UFC President has been dealing with since he purchased the company in the late ’90s. That alone is more than enough for Dana to despise Jake Paul.
