“I think it’s really important to give her a well-rounded storyline.”

Bridgerton star Golda Rosheuvel has spoken about the possibility of King George returning, revealing that she hopes James Fleet’s character will be given more screen time.

The period romance returns to Netflix later this month with its third season, with the first four episodes being released on May 16. The latest season, based on Romancing Mister Bridgerton, focuses on Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) as their bond grows.

Rosheuvel, who plays Queen Charlotte on the show, will reprise her role after taking centre stage in spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, and revealed exclusively to Digital Spy that she hopes her on-screen husband will be granted more screen time in the future.

“I hope [we see more of Charlotte and George] – I think it’s really important to give her a well-rounded storyline,” said Rosheuvel. “It’s all very well, the Queen at the balls [with] the wigs and the costume.

“I think it’s really lovely to have George come in and you see behind the scenes and you see a more vulnerable side of her. Between the private and the public. I think the more we get to see a little bit of the private will inform the public.”

Rosheuvel was joined in the interview by Adjoa Andoh, with the actor echoing the sentiments of her co-star as she recalled a scene from the second season, hinting that there is a larger story to tell regarding the King and Queen.

“Underneath all of the Queen’s statuesque pronouncements and eyebrow raising, there is this really vulnerable vibration of what’s going on for her domestically,” said Andoh, who plays Lady Danbury. “It’s really touching when you have those moments, where it just bursts on the pomp and deflates it.”
