UFC welterweight title challenger Belal Muhammad has claimed that champion, Leon Edwards, is the worst guy to be a champion for the UFC.
After going on a 10-fight undefeated streak, Belal Muhammad made himself undeniable for the next welterweight title shot, and will finally get his rematch against Leon Edwards on July 27th at UFC 304.
Since their first fight in 2021, Muhammad has gone on to win five fights, taking out names like Stephen Thompson, Vicente Luque, and Gilbert Burns.
Ahead of the biggest fight of his career thus far, ‘Remember The Name’ has admitted he ‘hates’ Edwards and his team for taking so long to give him the title shot.

Belal Muhammad claims Edwards is the ‘worst guy to be a champion’
‘Rocky’ Edwards is one of the lesser-spoken UFC champions and isn’t someone who particularly uses his social media to promote his fights or to increase his fanbase.
Although Muhammad isn’t the most popular fighter amongst fans, he believes because of that reason, the UFC won’t mind if Edwards loses his title at UFC 304.
“They’re looking at what’s going to move the needle and it’s hard because Leon is like the worst guy to be a champion because he doesn’t do social media, he doesn’t promote himself, he doesn’t promote the division.” Muhammad told the Show Me The Money Podcast.
“When you look at other divisions like (Israel Adesanya) or (Alexander) Volkanovski when they’re champions they’re looking at the next guy and they know they have to build up the next guy and build the match.” Belal added.
Following Edwards’ last title defense against Colby Covington at UFC 296 in December, the UFC offered him three opportunities to compete on the milestone UFC 300 event, which he said yes to each time.
Despite that, Muhammad was not one of the names offered to the Brit as he revealed on The MMA Hour this past Monday that he was offered Shavkat Rakhmonov, Khamzat Chimaev, and Islam Makhachev.
Although it has taken so long for the UFC to give him his title shot, the 35-year-old believes that if he does win the title, the UFC will realize what they had under their nose the whole time.
“Once I’m the champion, I think the UFC’s going to be like ‘Oh we had this here the whole time’, like I know how to talk, I’m not afraid to promote myself, I’m not afraid to stand in there and fight anybody, I’m never going to say no to a fight.” Muhammad said.
Belal Muhammad explains why Leon Edwards is the ‘easiest fight in the top 5’
Although Edwards is currently ranked third in the pound-for-pound rankings, Muhammad believes he is the easiest fight in the top 5 for him, because he is ‘breakable’.
“If I’m being honest I think he is the easiest guy in the top 5, stylistically for myself. Because he’s breakable, we’ve seen him in the (Kamaru) Usman fight and my mentality is to try and break you.
“I think that style that Usman brought in that second fight of walking him down, high volume, taking him down, letting him back up, beating him up, and getting him to a point where he was looking down, and his coach had to motivate him to get up.” Muhammad claimed.
Not only does Muhammad believe being the ‘strongest mentally’ fighter in the promotion will help him secure the victory, but his hate for Leon Edwards will also give him the added push to become the new champion.
“I’m going in there with a different type of anger now because I hate him so much and the only other fighter I had that type of anger with was Sean Brady.” Muhammad finished.
