The Night Agent may not be done by the time the season 3 finale credits roll. Today, the cat has been let out of the bag: significant progress has been made on a fourth-season renewal, including the show and Peter Sutherland “relocating” to California. 

We heard a short while ago that the writer’s room was active on a fourth season and that the series was lining up for yet another early renewal (season 3 was announced before season 2 premiered), but we have been waiting for an official greenlight before pulling the trigger on publishing.

Netflix declined to comment at the time, and has so again today.

But today, Governor Newsom and the California Film Commission confirm that a season 4 is not only in development but is planning a big production move. Since season 2, the show has predominantly filmed in New York and parts in Washington, D.C., with plenty of international excursions along the way. Some of those international locations include Thailand for season 2 and Turkey, Mexico, and even the Dominican Republic for season 3.

The approved TV projects list confirms that The Night Agent S4 is part of the “Relocating TV series” list from Sony Pictures Television and is set to have 90 days of filming in California, has a total of 178 cast members, 334 base crew members, and 3,350 background performer days worked with a total qualifying expenditure of just shy of $80 million.

Given the number of production days and prior production schedules, we’d guess that California won’t be the only filming location for season 4.

What do we know about a release date for season 3? Nothing official, but we do know it won’t be released in December. We had been told the series was eyeing a January release, but our understanding is that it has now shifted back to mid-February 2026 (we’re hearing the 19th).

Among the new faces confirmed for season 3 are Genesis Rodriguez, David Lyons, Jennifer Morrison, and Stephen Moyer, plus promotions for Fola Evans-Akingbola, Ward Horton, and Albert Jones, who have been upped to series regulars. Controversially, Luciane Buchanan is not returning as Rose Larkin in the third season.
