Continuing the franchise’s biggest tradition, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story editor Denise Chan opens up about stars India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest’s real bond on set. The Netflix miniseries acts as a prequel to the Shonda Rhimes-produced adaptation of the historical romantic novels, shifting the focus to Charlotte’s early relationship with King George and eventual marriage to him, and learning of his issues with his mental health. Led by Amarteifio and Mylchreest, Queen Charlotte has scored near universal acclaim for its heartwarming central romance and exploration of its heavier material.
While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant to discuss the series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story‘s Denise Chan is looking back on the real bond between stars India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest. The series’ editor explains how, while cutting together a gag reel for the prequel, the Charlotte and George actors were frequently shown having a great time together, and how it factored positively into the show as a whole. See what Chan shared below:
I got to cut the gag reel. And there, you can see that the connection between them is real. They are just high-fiving each other, and really being each other’s support. That is how close they are, and that helps the morale on the set. It just cascades into all the other characters, and you can tell that they’re so comfortable. When morale on set is great, you just see it on camera so much more.
Chemistry Is King In Queen Charlotte And Other Bridgerton Seasons

Much like their work on Grey’s Anatomy before it, Rhimes and Bridgerton creator and showrunner Chris Van Dusen have continued to display a grasp on engrossing romantic stories with the Netflix historical fiction franchise. However, while their writing delivers plenty of soapy and tantalizing relationships on screen, a game cast is always needed to properly depict these plots, and the performers in the Bridgerton franchise have displayed plenty of chemistry throughout its run.
One of the reasons Bridgerton season 1 was an immediate hit for Netflix was the engrossing dynamic between Regé-Jean Page’s Simon and Phoebe Dynevor’s Daphne, whose romance was the main focus of the debut season as it adapted the franchise’s first book, The Duke and I. Though audiences were heartbroken by Page’s exit heading into season 2, the shift to focusing on Jonathan Bailey’s Anthony and Simone Ashley’s Kate still proved engaging for critics and audiences alike thanks to the stars’ chemistry.
Amarteifio and Mylchreest’s behind-the-scenes bond on Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story may similarly be one audiences won’t get to enjoy further after the miniseries’ run, but its conversion to their onscreen chemistry sparkling is nonetheless further proof of the franchise’s success in casting its diverse characters. With both seasons 3 and 4 in the works for the universe, and Rhimes teasing other potential Bridgerton spinoffs in the future, it will be interesting to see if this chemistry trend can maintain through the franchise’s future.
