Wolverine and Deadpool fighting together

Some nefarious organization has gotten hold of Deadpool’s mind and body, and it is using it for their own amusement by having Deadpool (now referred to as Wade Wilson the Third, hence the title of the series) fight Wolverine to the death, but Wolverine has to come up with a way of breaking their control before Deadpool breaks him in this CBR exclusive preview of next week’s Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #2.

Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #2 is from legendary Deadpool writer, Joe Kelly, legendary Wolverine artist, Adam Kubert, and colorist Frank Martin and letterer Joe Sabino (those guys are great, too), and it continues the story introduced in the first issue of this three-part miniseries, which saw Wolverine called into action to take down a mysterious destructive mutant, a mutant who Deadpool had been hired to take down, as well. Wolverine and Deadpool had an uneasy team-up (as Deadpool kept trying to injure Wolverine to assure that Deadpool could collect on his fee) before they ultimately had to kill the mutant. After Wolverine went back home, though, someone abducted Deadpool, and at the end of the issue, Wolverine tracks down Deadpool, only to see that the Merc with the Mouth was now under the control of a mysterious society of villainous rich people.

The series opened up with a flashback to Wolverine’s time as Weapon X, a time when he, too, had lost control of his own mind, and was forced to perform as a tool of a mysterious group with ill-intentions, and so Wolverine has a lot of sympathy for anyone else in a similar situation…but how far can that sympathy go when facing someone who is trying to kill you?

The preview pages show Wolverine and Deadpool beginning their fight, while Wolverine explains the point about feeling sympathy for Wade here, even though he generally dislikes Wade. Wolverine is stunned, though, when Deadpool, after Wolverine stabs his arm, just removes the arm, and some sort of weird energy forms a new arm to continue the fight.

We see the mysterious THOSE WHO WATCH, and there is a girl, Greta, who doesn’t look like she belongs with these rich snobs, but it appears as though her powers are key to what is going on in the fight.

Wolverine ultimately determines that there is only one way to snap Deadpool out of their control, but that’s the cliffhanger that the preview ends with, so you’ll just have to pick up a copy of Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #2 next week to see what he does (although, odds are it involves some stabbing).
