Summer 36 Netflix Release Date Set

Netflix is continuing its highly successful partnership with French broadcaster TF1 to bring another sweeping historical drama to international audiences. Following its highly anticipated domestic broadcast, Summer ’36 (French title L’ÉtĂ© 36) has officially begun its global rollout on Netflix, with most regions destined to pick up the “limited series” on July 1st. Here are all the first looks and what you need to know.

If you are a fan of sprawling European historical dramas, Netflix has been treating you well over the last few years. The streaming giant previously teamed up with TF1 and production company Quad Drama to distribute The Bonfire of Destiny (Le Bazar de la CharitĂ©) and Women at War (Les Combattantes). That’s not to mention upcoming projects, including them teaming on a new treasure hunter series, Chercheurs d’Or.

Now, the spiritual successor to those hits has arrived. Boasting the same prestige format and centering once again on four female protagonists whose destinies collide, Summer ’36 is set to be your next French TV obsession.

This new series had its world premiere in the French Competition at the prestigious Séries Mania 2026 festival and then began airing on TF1, and has begun its Netflix rollout as of yesterday, with most regions due to pick it up in early July. More on the release schedule below.

Here is everything you need to know about Summer ’36 and its Netflix rollout.

What is the plot of Summer ’36?

The series takes us back to a major turning point in 20th-century French history. Comprising six 52-minute episodes, the thriller-drama mixes a culture clash with a gripping murder mystery. Here is the official synopsis for the series:

“Summer 1936, Nice. The vacationing bourgeoisie, accustomed to the French Riviera and its refined privileges, are appalled to see a wave of new vacationers arrive, taking advantage of the country’s very first paid holidays (congĂ©s payĂ©s).

In this bustling atmosphere where two very different worlds rub shoulders without trying to understand one another, four women from vastly different backgrounds find themselves mixed up in a murder at the ultra-chic Riviera Hotel. It’s a crime that will completely upend their family, romantic, and professional lives.”
