Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan, the actors who portray Penelope and Colin in Netflix’s Bridgerton shared a behind-the-scenes peek at season 2 with a set photo. The series, based on Julia Quinn’s novels, became Netflix’s biggest show ever, leading to a near immediate renewal for season 2, and soon after, 3 and 4. Bridgerton season 2 will follow the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony, as he searches for love. Sex Education’s Simone Ashley has been cast as Anthony’s main love interest, Kate Sharma.

Unfortunately, season 1 standout Regé-Jean Page has exited Bridgerton, in a decision surprising to many viewers. However, although the series will be changing as it approaches season 2, some things will remain the same. Many actors will be returning for Bridgerton season 2, including Phoebe Dynevor, Claudia Jessie, and Luke Thompson. So even though audiences will miss the love story between Simon and Daphne, they will still be privy to the rebellious antics of Eloise, the unrequited will-they-won’t-they dynamic between Penelope and Colin, Benedict’s struggle with his sexuality, and, of course, Anthony’s attempt to balance his ego with his sense of responsibility as the eldest son.

Viewers can rest easy knowing that “Polin” is back in action, and that the actors portraying the beloved characters are at least somewhat as invested in the relationship’s trajectory as audiences are. The relationship is likely to be a slow burn as Penelope and Colin are just best friends, though Penelope is secretly in love with the Bridgerton son. Bridgerton season 2 should prove to be a worthy addition to the mega hit series, expanding upon all of the relationships and revelations presented in season 1. Hopefully, Colin and Penelope are a big part of this.

The actors’ posts should only increase anticipation for season 2. Many other developments have been made in the Bridgerton world since season 1 released, including The Man in the High Castle’s Rupert Evans being cast as the Bridgerton patriarch, Edmund, who aides Anthony in his life. Additionally, Netflix announced a planned prequel spin-off series following the earlier life of Queen Charlotte, who is played by Golda Rosheuvel. All told, there’s a lot for Bridgerton viewers to be excited about, even beyond season 2.
