As with any period drama, part of the appeal of Bridgerton is that it immerses the viewer in a distant place and time. With its lush costumes and its compelling romantic storylines, it’s everything that one could desire from a period piece. It’s also true, however, that another major contributor to the series’ enduring appeal for audiences is the fact that it features a number of fascinating characters, one of the most important of which is Daphne Bridgerton.
The actress who portrays her, Phoebe Dynefor, has also appeared in a number of other movies and TV shows, which the users of IMDb have helpfully rated.
The Colour Room (2021) – 6.8
Given that Dynevor excels at showing how fiercely independent Daphne Bridgerton is, it’s not surprising that she would play a similarly driven character in The Colour Room. It is Dynevor’s feature movie debut, and she captures the indomitable spirit of her character, Clarice Cliff, a factory worker who takes risks and chances in an early 20th century factory in which she works.
Though Dynevor is the center of the action, it also features a compelling performance by renowned actor Matthew Goode.
Snatch (2017-present) – 6.9
There are many great crime series, but there are few that manage to capture quite the skill of Snatch, which manages to be both a drama and a comedy. It focuses on a group of young scammers who slowly get caught up in the dangerous world of organized crime. Among other things, it is notable for being one of the more prominent screen efforts of Rupert Grint of Harry Potter fame. In the series, Phoebe Dynevor plays Lotti Mott, the gangster’s female companion who wants to escape the life she currently leads.
Waterloo Road (2006-2022) – 7.3
Waterloo Road is widely regarded as one of the better series set in a school, as can be seen from the fact that it ran for over a decade. In part, the series’ magic stems from its ability to portray the struggles of an underfunded school in which both the students and faculty face tremendous pressures. At the same time, it also demonstrates how a teacher who is actually invested in their students can change lives. Dynevor played the character of Siobhan Mailey for several seasons, a young woman whose unfortunate decisions end up having negative consequences in her life.
Monroe (2011-2012) – 7.6
There have been numerous great medical dramas and, though it only lasted a short while, Monroe, which was produced by ITV, should still be one of these. Focusing on the neurosurgeon Gabriel Monroe, it featured strong performances, particularly from lead actor James Nesbitt and a number of compellingly-written storylines. Unfortunately, it didn’t earn enough ratings to ultimately justify a second season. Dynevor only appeared in one episode of the series, as a character named Phoebe Cormack.
The Village (2013-present) – 7.7
The British have long shown that they know how to make a compelling period drama, and television history is filled with several great examples of the genre. As with so many other dramas of this type, it paints a bucolic portrait of an English village attempting to navigate the fraught waters of the 20th century. Though it has some similarities to Downton Abbey, it is much more focused on the working class. Dynevor appeared in several episodes of the series as the character Phoebe Rundle.
Prisoner’s Wives (2012-2013) – 7.7
As its title suggests, this series focuses on a group of women whose husbands have been imprisoned. As a result, it has definitely earned its place among the best dramas that have addressed the lives and issues of prisoners. Due to the strong performances of its cast, it allows the viewer to fully appreciate the lives and struggles of these women as they attempt to rebuild their lives after their loved ones’ incarceration.
Dynevor appears in a supporting role as Lauren Miller, while her Bridgerton co-star Polly Walker has a much more substantial role in the series.
Dickensian (2015-2016) – 7.7
The works of Charles Dickens have made for many television adaptations. Most of them, naturally, focus on a particular version of a given novel. In Dickensian, however, the various characters that have populated Dickens’ various works, all of whom live in the same London neighborhood. The series is a delight for those who like their period dramas to have a literary bent, and the series’ primarily focuses on the investigation involving the murder of Jacob Marley. Dynevor played the character of Martha Cratchitt for a full twenty episodes.
The Musketeers (2014-2016) – 7.8
Like many other literary characters, the Three Musketeers have appeared in a number of media, and they have been a particularly popular subject for both movies and TV. The Musketeers is a lush period drama, and though it takes some notable liberties with the original story as written by Alexandre Dumas. However, the series does feature some strong performances, especially from Peter Capaldi as Cardinal Richelieu. Dynevor only appeared in one episode of the series, portraying the character of Camille.
Younger (2015-2021) – 7.9
Younger is one of those rare series that manages to capture the right balance between comedy and drama, focusing as it does on the efforts of a middle-aged woman to pass herself off as someone younger so as to re-enter the world of publishing. Even though Dynevor doesn’t have a huge role in the series, she is notable for playing the recurring character of Clare. She gets into a relationship with the main character Josh.
The actress who portrays her, Phoebe Dynefor, has also appeared in a number of other movies and TV shows, which the users of IMDb have helpfully rated.
