Ryan Reynolds vai Wade Wilson trong X-Men Origins Wolverine và Deadpool Hiding Behind the Snow trong Deadpool & Wolverine

The latest Deadpool & Wolverine trailer hides a link to a secret message from Ryan Reynolds in which the actor claims the MCU movie will “completely sidestep Marvel’s mandated after-credits sequence.” Deadpool & Wolverine‘s July release date is fast approaching, and promotional material for the Phase 5 film is gradually revealing more information about its plot. Most of Deadpool & Wolverine‘s biggest plot reveals have been kept under wraps, with only the official Deadpool & Wolverine trailers teasing what threats Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds’ anti-heroes will face in their first MCU movie.

Today, Disney announced that tickets for Deadpool & Wolverine are on sale and released a new trailer, which had a QR code hidden within that led to a video posted on Ryan Reynolds’ personal YouTube account. In the video, Reynolds lists off things viewers can expect from the upcoming MCU movie, one of which is a lack of post-credits scenes. See the video below.

We’re very excited to be joining you July 26. Many of you are very excited. But we should set the table correctly. This film is as paper thin as a sequel to Battlefield Earth. We’re mostly going to beat each other senseless, make enemies with Disney, tell a few d-ck jokes, make a few jokes at my expense, make a lot of jokes at Hugh’s expense, and completely sidestep Marvel’s mandated after-credits sequence , which if you haven’t figured it out yet, is always just a commercial for another movie which will invariably end with a commercial for another movie. So sit back, relax, let us lower your IQ and raise your heart rate while we travel to a vapid Dreamland, a place where grown men and grown women walk around in tights, and act like it’s not a giant cultural cry for help. This is CINEMA.

Will Deadpool & Wolverine REALLY Not Have A Post-Credits Scene?

The MCU Movie’s Credits Scenes Have Already Been Teased

Ryan Reynolds’ video seems to suggest that Deadpool & Wolverine will poke fun at the MCU’s post-credits scene tradition by not including a post-credits scene itself. However, Reynolds’ words should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld already teased Deadpool & Wolverine‘s post-credits scene, corroborating an insider’s claim that the scene is “mind-blowing.” Since post-credits scenes can be added or removed at the very last minute, no one but director Shawn Levy, the movie’s producers, and Marvel execs will know for certain whether Deadpool & Wolverine will have a post-credits scene or not.

It would be very odd for Deadpool & Wolverine not to have a post-credits scene. Not only would an extra scene after the credits allow Marvel to set up upcoming multiversal projects and future Deadpool and Wolverine appearances within the MCU, but it could also play with the traditional post-credits scene format. Deadpool’s fourth-wall-breaking abilities, Wolverine’s presence, and the movie’s myriad cameos could help make Deadpool & Wolverine‘s the riskiest and most self-aware post-credits scene in Marvel history.

Ryan Reynolds’ video could be trying to misdirect the audience’s expectations in order to add an element of surprise to Deadpool & Wolverine‘s post-credits scene. Or, if Reynolds’ jab at the promotional nature of MCU’s post-credits scenes is read as a hint, it’s possible that Deadpool & Wolverine will have a post-credits scene — only that it will avoid setting up a future project and instead will end the film with an inconsequential gag, similar to Captain America’s PSA in Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s post-credits scene or Deadpool’s Ferris Bueller’s Day Off reference at the end of 2016’s Deadpool.
