Netflix has officially setĀ Heartland, a new mystery thriller starring Oscar-winner Jessica Chastain, with filming scheduled for a two-month shoot starting at the end of September in Atlanta, Georgia, and Nashville, Tennessee.
The film is directed and co-written byĀ Shana Feste, best known for dramas, thrillers, and even more romance-heavy movies in titles likeĀ Country StrongĀ andĀ Run Sweetheart Run.Ā Feste also co-wrote the screenplay, with production coming from Chernin Entertainment in partnership with Sandbox Entertainment.
InĀ Heartland, Chastain plays Misty Jones, a former country star who reluctantly comes out of seclusion to investigate the disappearance of her niece, a rising young musician. Taking on the role of the missing niece is country singerĀ Carter Faith, who makes her acting debut. As Mistyās search drags her deep into Nashvilleās darker corners, she is forced to confront old wounds while uncovering a world where nothing, and no one, is as it seems. Starring alongside them is Oscar-nomineeĀ John Hawkes, whose role remains under wraps.
The producing team includes Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping for Chernin Entertainment, Jason Owen for Sandbox Entertainment, Randall Poster, and Tracy Cook. Jeff Valeri is serving as line producer, with Jason Graham on board as production manager. Casting is being overseen by Richard Hicks, whose previous credits span numerous acclaimed film and television projects.
Fresh fromĀ receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Jessica ChastainĀ continues a busy year, headlining Apple TV+ās limited seriesĀ The Savant, where she plays a covert investigator targeting extremist online networks. Her career has included acclaimed performances inĀ Zero Dark Thirty,Ā Mollyās Game,Ā The Eyes of Tammy Faye, andĀ Interstellar.
John Hawkes, meanwhile, is known for his Oscar-nominated role inĀ The Sessions, as well as standout turns inĀ Winterās Bone,Ā Martha Marcy May Marlene, andĀ Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. He will next be seen in Amazonās seriesĀ Criminal.Ā Carter Faith, already a charting country music star, is stepping into acting for the first time, bringing her Nashville roots directly into the storyās setting.
Production onĀ Heartland begins September 22 and will run through at least November 30, 2025.
