Lucas Bravo can’t help but feel glad that a pivotal storyline in part one of Emily in Paris season 4 is behind him!
In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE about the new season, Bravo, who plays aspiring Michelin chef Gabriel, says he felt “a sense of relief” when he read that his character’s ex-fiancée, Camile (Camile Razat) wasn’t having his baby after all.
“I felt like that pregnancy, it was a promise of more chaos or more drama and a new obstacle, which is sad because a baby should never be that,” he explains, sharing how the way the pregnancy was “conceived” implied that it “closed the door to a lot of things.”

“Since Gabriel has been in love with Emily (Lily Collins) since the moment he opened that door, I felt like that pregnancy was getting in the way of that,” Bravo continues. “So yeah, there was a sense of relief, but it is not going to feel that way.”
In season 4 episode 5, viewers saw Camile discover that she was never pregnant after a visit to her gynecologist’s office. While grappling with the news, she met a friend at a cafe to confide in her. Camile explained that she felt apprehensive about sharing the developments with Gabriel as the baby kept them in each other’s lives.

Bravo tells PEOPLE that he thinks the latest installment will be “a very mature season for Gabriel.”
“I feel like the promise of the baby gives him enough energy to start being a bit more proactive and chase his dream and chase the woman he loves,” he adds.
In the video announcing the fourth season last June, Collins teased that “more fun, more fashion, and of course, more drama” was coming in the new installment. ”It’s safe to say we ended on a dramatic note last season. And surprise, it does not end there!” she said in the teaser.
”So much happened that we just need answers to. Is Alfie still heartbroken? Will Gabriel get his Michelin star? Will Mindy and the band go to Eurovision? And what about Camille? Will Sylvie’s rekindled love last? And, the question on all of our minds: Will Emily and Gabriel finally get together?”
Teasing more of what’s to come, Collins said Emily’s life will take “some unexpected twists,” too, which will include a Roman holiday and an ultimatum. “Emily is going to have to decide if she’s ever wanted is really what she needs,” she added.
Season 4 part one of Emily in Paris is available to stream on Netflix. Part 2 will premiere on Sept. 12.
