The Umbrella Academy season 4 has teased more action and trouble for the Hargreeves, and it looks like Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) is going to create another Umbrella Academy team. After three seasons with many twists and shocking reveals, The Umbrella Academy is ending with its fourth season, but it has a lot to address and solve to bring the series to a satisfying end, especially after the events of season 3. The Umbrella Academy season 3 ended on a major cliffhanger that left the Hargreeves powerless and in a completely different world designed by Reginald.

Although Reginald was killed by Allison to save her siblings, when she pulled the lever she reset the timeline and Reginald’s designed one became a reality. The result was Reginald and his wife being alive, Sloane disappearing, Allison having her daughter and her 1960s husband, and all the Hargreeves and Lila losing their powers. The first teaser trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 4 hinted at how the Hargreeves will regain their powers and the new problems they will face, but it also teased the formation of a new Umbrella team.

Reginald Says He Adopted Six Children In The Umbrella Academy Season 4 Teaser Trailer

The Umbrella & Sparrow Academies Had Seven Children

The original Umbrella Academy team was formed with seven adopted children with extraordinary abilities, and so was the Sparrow Academy.

At the beginning of the teaser trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 4, there’s a voiceover by Reginald where he explains the world is changing, and there are people with abilities that go beyond the ordinary. Reginald then announces he has adopted six children with incredible abilities for the inaugural class of the Umbrella Academy, and while at first this could be interpreted as a flashback to the formation of the Umbrella team before season 1, there’s one important detail that debunks this: Hargreeves says he adopted six children.

The Umbrella Academy Season 4 Trailer

The original Umbrella Academy team was formed with seven adopted children with extraordinary abilities, though they became a team of six after Ben’s death and then of five when Five traveled through time and couldn’t come back. The Sparrow Academy, from an alternate timeline where Reginald adopted children different from the Umbrellas (except Ben, who he didn’t know was once part of the team), also had seven members. Season 3 revealed the reason Reginald adopted seven children on both occasions was because that’s the number he needed to power the machine in Hotel Oblivion that would allow him to reset the timeline.

Reginald saying he has adopted six children points to him creating another Umbrella Academy team, and as this is a new timeline, it would be the inaugural class, even if the members of the original one are in this timeline (and this Reginald is the one who created the Sparrow Academy) – however, the reasons for creating a new team can vary, but it could be motivated by a tragedy.

The New Umbrella Academy Having Six Members Hints At Tragedy In Season 4

The Umbrella Academy As We Know It Might Not Survive Season 4

The Umbrellas are now eight, as Sparrow Ben and Lila have joined the team, so if Reginald’s team has six members, that could point to a tragic ending for two of them.

There’s a possibility that Reginald isn’t creating a new team with six children who haven’t been previously introduced, and instead, he’s (re)adopting the members of the original Umbrella Academy to make the first class of this timeline. The problem with that is that the Umbrellas are now eight, as Sparrow Ben and Lila have joined the team, so if Reginald’s team has six members, that could point to a tragic ending for two of the Umbrellas.

There are theories about Viktor, Klaus, and/or Allison dying in The Umbrella Academy season 4 for different reasons: Viktor because he has usually been the one willing to sacrifice himself for his family, Klaus because of his past experiences with death, and Allison as part of her redemption. However, it’s also possible that they will all survive but only six will agree to join Reginald’s team, but regardless of who is part of Reginald’s new Umbrella Academy team, the biggest question is why he’s forming a new team again.
