Malin Akerman spoke exclusively to PEOPLE at the Calamigos Ranch Resort & Spa Leading Hotels of the World Accreditation Celebration in Malibu, Calif., on Friday, May 1
She teased that season 2 of The Hunting Wives will feature more twists and delve into her character’s backstory
“It was really fun for us going through the scripts, and I think it’s going to be a wild ride for the audience too,” said Akerman

Malin Akerman is excited for audiences to see the “unexpected twists” in season two of The Hunting Wives.

Akerman, 47, plays Margo Banks, the leader of the wives, alongside a stacked cast including Brittany Snow, Evan Jonigkeit, Katie Lowes, Dermot Mulroney and more. Things take a turn when Snow, 40, who plays Sophie, moves to Texas and tries befriending the group of East Texas socialites — only for a teen girl named Abby to turn up dead.

While attending the Calamigos Ranch Resort & Spa Leading Hotels of the World Accreditation Celebration in Malibu, Calif., on Friday, May 1, Akerman spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about what to expect from season two of the series.

“I feel like we’ve been talking about it because we just feel like it’s a little bit wilder than the first season, meaning more twists and turns that are really unexpected, which is really fun,” said Akerman.

“It was really fun for us going through the scripts, and I think it’s going to be a wild ride for the audience too,” she added.

Season two of the series is set to delve further into her character, Margo’s backstory, while continuing the mystery after Abby’s killer was revealed in the season one finale. The logline reads, “Sophie and Margo are on the outs. But soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together. As they play their dangerous games, the question arises: Are they the hunters or the hunted?”

Even though things are tense between their characters, Akerman and Snow are incredibly close in real life — bonding over their love of true crime podcasts. “Brittany is the best,” Akerman told PEOPLE.

“She’s literally one of my best friends now. Maybe that’s what has to happen when you have a love affair onscreen — you become best friends,” she continued. “She really is an incredible human being. I just adore her. I feel like it’s a sisterly love, and she’s just part of my family now. I feel so lucky to get to go to work with her all the time.”

During the October 2025 She Sees Me: The Power of Female Friendship (in Life and Art) panel, Akerman revealed that there was “a lot of nerves” before her and Snow filled “intimate” moments for the show.

“Before our very first intimate scene together, there was a lot of nerves and we’re so used to dissecting our own bodies and looking in the mirror and finding all the things that were wrong with our bodies and it’s terrible,” she said. “And we saw it in each other firsthand as we were like, ‘Oh my God.’ “

“I just went, ‘Britt, you know what? We’re f—ing beautiful. We’ve worked hard for these bodies. We’ve worked hard our whole lives and you’re a beautiful f—ing person and let’s not do this,’ ” she added. “‘Let’s just go out there and have a great time — as much as you can with all these cameramen. It’s a weird time, but let’s just be in it together and let’s support each other right now and let’s just feel great about ourselves and let’s just, I look at you and you’re beautiful, and let’s celebrate our bodies right now.’ “

Akerman told PEOPLE that heading into season two of the series feels “a lot easier” as the group has a better idea of the dynamic and direction.

“Knowing what we’re walking into, understanding the tone of the show, understanding our characters, having an audience base out there who we know is really enjoying the show — all of that,” she said, adding, “And having this incredible crew alongside our cast has just made it such a pleasure.”

While there isn’t an official release date for The Hunting Wives season 2 yet, showrunner Rebecca Cutter previously said in a statement she “can’t wait to take the audience on another sexy, twisted, bats— crazy ride through Maple Brook.”

The Hunting Wives season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
