The Gilded Age season 4 release timeline receives an official update from HBO Max and reveals a first look at Carrie Coon’s Bertha Russell.
HBO’s historical drama originally premiered in 2022, but in July 2025, near the end of its third season, The Gilded Age season 4 was officially renewed, which has been filming since February 2026 in several locations, including the Breakers in Newport, Rhode Island, and several locations throughout New York City.
Now, a new “Coming Soon” to HBO Max promo confirms that The Gilded Age season 4 will premiere sometime this year, and also reveals the first look at Carrie Coon’s Bertha Russell and several other characters. Starting at the 1:08 minute mark, the footage features Bertha Russell delivering the line, “Life’s meaning isn’t where we came from. It’s where we’re going.” Watch the full video below:
The promo features footage from several other shows coming to HBO this year, including Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, Lanterns, Youth, Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Seattle Seahawks, the new season of Conan O’Brien Must Go, War, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and the documentaries The Man Will Burn, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Monsters of God.
Created and written by Julian Fellowes, The Gilded Age takes place during the titular boom years of the 1880s in New York City and follows the conflict between the new-money Russell family, led by their matriarch Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon), and their old-money neighbors, the van Rhijn family.
