Folks have taken a particular interest in Hannah since she auditioned for judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood in the second episode of the season. She wowed them with an original song, “String Cheese,” and made Carrie cry with the emotion it evoked.
“You might be my favorite person who has walked through those doors,” Carrie told the 25-year-old after her audition. “You’re gorgeous. You look famous already. You’re one that I’m going to think about when we leave here.”

Hannah Harper Auditions With Original Song About Her Postpartum Depression – American Idol
Watch on
Hannah’s been working on her musical career for a while.
According to Hannah’s official website, her dreams of becoming a singer began at the age of 9. Originally from Willow Springs, Missouri, she spent her childhood traveling with her family band, The Harper Family. Her time on the road “refined her skills,” and helped “deepen her understanding and love for music.”
When Hannah first appeared on American Idol, fans met her as a stay-at-home mom with three children she shares with her husband, Devon.
In an Instagram post in January 2026, she revealed more about her path to the competition.
“Last year around this time, I was bathing the idea of pursuing a solo career in country music in prayer,” she wrote in the caption at the time. “I didn’t want to tread on ground that wasn’t appointed for my feet. And boy, let me tell you … This is ground I never imagined myself standing on — but when He opened the door, I ran through it, and I can’t wait to see where this journey leads. 🤍.”

Throughout her time on American Idol, fans have had the chance to see what Hannah has to offer musically. And while she’s had to clarify some moments about her career (like reminding folks she hadn’t left the show, despite there being rumors in March 2026), she’s been open about how grateful she is for all the lessons she’s learned on the show.
“I think it’s challenged me as a songwriter to be extremely mindful moving forward in writing songs that only have purpose in that way,” she told Country Now on May 4. “I want to write fun stuff, but more than anything, the songs that speak to people, they will remember them.”
“If you jumped around on stage and put on a good performance, they’ll remember it for a while, but they’ll remember something more that made them feel a certain way,” she added. “And I think that’s what I’ve learned the most is to continue to stay true to that part of who I am as an artist.”
We can’t wait to see what else is in store for Hannah.
