Now on Netflix: Hunting Wives Fans Won’t Stop Talking About the One Question Abby’s Murder Didn’t Answer — and the Twist That Changed Everything
Viewers are still reeling after the killer reveal, but one lingering detail has sparked endless theories online. Was the truth really the truth… or is the real story still hiding in plain sight?
With The Hunting Wives focused on making big changes from the book, some fans are pointing out that a major question about Abby’s murder was never answered on the show.
A viewer took to TikTok to ask about Jill’s (Katie Lowes) involvement in the murder of son Brad’s (George Ferrier) girlfriend.
“How can y’all not know Margo unalived Abby AND the way she caught up to her was because Jill hit her with the car first,” read the caption on the Saturday, August 9, video. “That’s why she was limping and why Jill was cleaning her car.”
The comments section quickly filled up with people who had similar questions.
Breaking Down the Biggest Differences Between ‘The Hunting Wives’ TV Show and May Cobb’s Book
“Oooh! And Jill probs thought she actually killed her!! This makes the most sense!!” wrote a fan, while another added, “Anyone else take notice in the part before Margo had them sign NDAs she was going around spilling everyone’s ’skeletons’ but Jill stopped her from saying hers… 👀.”
While most people were on the same page that Jill was in some way involved, others were divided over whether Margo (Malin Åkerman) knew.

“That’s why Margo said ‘what do you have to hide??’ And Jill said ‘what about you??'” the speculation continued as someone else suggested, “There’s no way Jill isn’t involved.”

Another reaction highlighted Margo and Jill possibly secretly working together.
“I think Jill called Margo and told her she hit her with the car… and Margo said she’d handle it,” wrote a viewer. “And that’s why Jill wouldn’t clear her photos and stuff. I bet she had proof of Margo doing it like followed her…. Idk. Could be a stretch.”
Based on May Cobb’s book of the same name, The Hunting Wives follows Sophie (Brittany Snow), who moves from Boston to an East Texas town where she finds herself drawn to prominent socialite Margo (Åkerman). What ensues is guns, (a lot of) drinking, intense chemistry between Sophie and Margo – and murder.
But while Cobb’s novel unmasked Jill (Lowes) as the one who killed her son Brad’s (Ferrier) girlfriend, Abby, the show took some liberties with the source material — including making Margo the murderer.
“[Creator] Rebecca [Cutter] and May Cobb have a really great relationship. They’ve been talking a lot and May was kind of like, ‘Go for it,'” Åkerman, 47, exclusively told Us Weekly in July about those onscreen changes. “She was on set and was really elated to see her characters come to life and really loved the direction that Rebecca went in with the characters and the changes.”
Since its release, The Hunting Wives has found success at Netflix as fans await news of a second season. Cutter previously addressed plans for a second season when in a July interview with Variety she teased “a little bit of a time jump — not a year, but a time.” Cutter also hinted that “it would be smart” to have a new murder mystery in the next season, adding, “I don’t know whodunit yet or who got done!”
Author Cobb also showed support for a continuation. “I feel like there is so much more story to be told,” Cobb told CBS 19 in July. “It ends on a cliffhanger, and also, the cast and crew were so wonderful. We all just want to get back together and work together again.”
The Hunting Wives is currently streaming on Netflix.
