Not all ‘Bridgerton’ fan-favorites return for Season 4. See full cast.
Dearest Gentle Reader, it’s been a while since we last met the esteemed members of the ton, but with the new social season upon us, it’s time to get acquainted again.
Season 4 of the steamy Regency-era romance premieres with the first four episodes on Thursday, Jan. 29, with Part 2 set to release Feb. 26. Based on Julia Quinn’s novels, every season of “Bridgerton” spotlights one of the eight Bridgerton siblings. This time the attention is on Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), who frowns upon the idea of having to settle down “despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married.” But that’s until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball, Season 4’s logline reads. “You remember being told those stories as a child — the magic and the romance of them,” Thompson told Netflix’s Tudum. “It’s really exciting to have that weaved into the world that we know of Bridgerton … It’s such a great story, but it’s also, I hope, really relatable.”
Thompson teased that Season 4’s storyline “is a bit of a twist on Cinderella.”
“You remember being told those stories as a child — the magic and the romance of them,” Thompson told Netflix’s Tudum. “It’s really exciting to have that weaved into the world that we know of Bridgerton … It’s such a great story, but it’s also, I hope, really relatable.”
With that, let’s get to know the esteemed members of the ton, shall we?
Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton
Benedict is the marriage-evading and free-spirited second child of the Bridgerton family. At the beginning of Season 4, Benedict is in his peak rake era, ignoring family, duty and everything in between.
Thompson previously told USA TODAY that “Benedict for the last three seasons has been a very free character, but also slightly lost sometimes.”
“There’s a sense of not being quite sure where he sits,” Thompson said, adding “things (had come) to a head” for the character at the end of last season.
Perhaps meeting the Lady in Silver will change him once and for all?
Yerin Ha as Sophie Baek
The Lady in Silver in question, who has captivated Benedict, is actually a maid, Sophie, who has been “forced to spend much of her life working for the most demanding employer in the ton,” according to Netflix.
Unlike other members of the fictional society, especially the ladies on the marriage mart, Sophie “is not a normal damsel in distress” and is “resourceful and resilient,” according to showrunner Jess Brownell. “She’s a chess player, she’s a survivalist,” Brownell told Tudum. “Sometimes that works against her because it’s hard to get out of survival mode and allow herself to embrace love or playfulness or lightness or joy. Fortunately, those are things Benedict Bridgerton is very good at.”
Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton
With her nose to her books and a mind of her own, Eloise Bridgerton is the fifth child of the Bridgerton family. Unlike her sisters, Eloise hates being on the marriage mart and does anything within her power to avoid meeting eligible men, which also explains her closeness to Benedict. The two feel like outliers in a society obsessed with matchmaking and gossip. However, now that she is “on the shelf,” Eloise looks forward to re-entering society and being amused.
Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Bridgerton née Featherington / Lady Whistledown
After spending almost three seasons in the shadows, Penelope Featherington is donning several hats this season, including that of the ton’s resident gossiper, Lady Whistledown.
Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton
The Bridgerton family’s third son, Colin, is enjoying his role this season as a dutiful husband and father to Elliot, the next Lord Featherington.
Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton
The Bridgerton family matriarch, Violet Bridgerton, primarily spends her time managing her children’s affairs and helping them find love and friendship. With half her brood now married, Violet’s focus has shifted towards herself and her growing desires, reading and gardening.
Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury
Maneuvering society behind the scenes is the esteemed Lady Agatha Danbury, also a close confidante of the queen. While the social season always begins with her ball, this season, she is stepping back and letting Violet host the first soiree, the highly anticipated masquerade ball.
Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte
With her elaborate wigs and affinity for gossip, Queen Charlotte is the head of society. While in the earlier seasons, the queen was obsessed with playing games with and unmasking Lady Whistledown, this season she has given Mayfair’s gossip writer her full backing and support.
Golda Rosheuvel, who plays Charlotte, previously told USA TODAY that the queen’s obsession with Whistledown comes from a place of respect.
“The Ton is a very insular place,” Rosheuvel said. “And to have somebody come in and kind of shake that up a little bit is intriguing to the queen. There’s a lot of respect there for this person, who has dared to come in and shake up the Ton. There’s a sense of ‘how dare you,’ but also there’s a sense of ‘who is this?'”
Rosheuvel added that while the queen and Whistledown may not become friends, they will try to coexist, though “there’s going to be a bit of push and pull.”
“There has to be a little bit of push and pull to make it a little sweeter, a little bit more electrifying,” Rosheuvel said. “They are equals in different ways. And that lends itself to juicy storytelling.”
Hannah Dodd as Francesca Stirling née Bridgerton
Gentle and soft-spoken, Francesca is the sixth child of the Bridgerton family. As much as she loves her siblings, they sometimes overwhelm her. Shortly after making her debut in society last season, Francesca married Lord John Stirling, and the two began this season as newlyweds.
Victor Alli as Lord John Stirling
John is the Earl of Killmartin and Francesca’s husband.
Daniel Francis as Lord Marcus Anderson
Lady Danbury’s brother, Lord Marcus, is a widower and Violet’s love interest.
Florence Hunt as Hyacinth Bridgerton, Will Tilston as Gregory Bridgerton
The youngest two siblings of the Bridgerton family, Gregory and Hyacinth, have grown quite a bit since we last saw them. While Hyacinth is preparing to make her debut in society, perfecting her dance and hosting skills, Gregory is following his brothers’ footsteps, studying at the prestigious Eton College.
Martins Imhangbe and Emma Naomi as Will and Alice Mondrich
Will Mondrich, a former boxer and club owner, left his past life for high society after his son, Nicky, inherited an estate and title from Alice’s great-aunt. The Mondrichs are now part of the Mayfair society, with a busy social calendar.
Katie Leung as Lady Araminta Gun
Sophie’s stepmother and later employer, Lady Araminta Gun, is a formidable woman. Twice-married and twice-widowed, Araminta has two daughters debuting on the marriage mart this season. “Fabulous, discerning, and blunt, Araminta does not respond well when anything — or anyone — threatens her standing in society,” Netflix said about the character.
Michelle Mao as Rosamund Li and Isabella Wei as Posy Li
Araminta’s elder daughter, Rosamund, is described as “beautiful (and) vain,” and her mother’s “most prized possession” by Netflix. Rosamund has her sights set on Benedict this social season, and like her mother, “is determined to get what she wants.”
Also debuting this year is Posy, Rosamund’s “younger, kinder sister.” With a chatty and “overly friendly” personality, Posy is often “putting her foot in her mouth,” according to Netflix.
Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton and Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma
Viscount Bridgerton, or Anthony, is the eldest Bridgerton sibling, who married the fiery Kate Sharma from India in Season 2. While the two are yet to make an appearance in Season 4, viewers learn that the couple welcomed their first child while in India.
How to watch ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4
