Nicola Coughlan’s Heartwarming Reunion with Derry Girls Co-Stars: Is a Shared Screen Appearance on the Horizon?

Nicola Coughlan has reunited with Louisa Harland and Siobhán McSweeney, her co-stars from Derry Girls.
The Irish sitcom ran for three series before concluding in 2022, with the trio playing Clare Devlin, Orla McCool and Sister Michael respectively.
Over two years after the show ended, the trio have reunited, with Coughlan posting a photo of the group posing on her Instagram Stories.

McSweeney, who won a BAFTA Award for her performance in the third series, spoke about the future of the Channel 4 show last year, sharing that she was unsure if she would ever reprise her role.
“I think the thing that makes shows great is that you want to end them, and don’t ruin them by dragging them out for years and years and years,” she said. “So I think we’ve left the characters in a good place, a good place of hope, a place of peace.
“So why not leave them there for the time being? I see Sister Michael every time I open my eyes anyway. She’s always with me. It would never be down to me anyway. I became an actor to live as many lives as possible anyway.”
Coughlan has since found greater fame with her roles in Bridgerton, of which she became the lead in the third series, and Big Mood, a six-part Channel 4 drama in which she starred alongside Lydia West.

“I think, because this was written by one of my best friends, it’s very much the vernacular and for me, so it was really nice,” said Coughlan of her role in the latter show. “It’s very much the way in which we speak to one another so I felt a lot of freedom in the performance.
“You have to be cognisant of editing and something like Bridgerton, which will do like 40 takes for a single scene and 20 different camera angles. You have to be super aware of every single movement you’re doing.
“In this, I really didn’t want to be and they’re very different shows, but I felt super, super free to play her as I felt she should be played and with that kind of looseness and freedom. So yeah, it was great but it was super, super challenging.”
