Nicola Coughlan has lifted the lid on her role in the new Barbie movie and said: “It’s going to be one of the best movies ever made”.

The Irish actress, best known for her leading roles in Bridgerton and Derry Girls, is one of a long list of famous faces revealed to star in the highly-anticipated flick that will see Margot Robbie as Barbie and Gosling as Ken.

She said she only plays a small part in the film, but admitted she “couldn’t be more excited” to see the Greta Gerwig flick finally hit screens this summer.

She told The Standard: “I am so excited for Barbie. I could only do the tiniest bit. I’m in it for 20 seconds, if even that.

“When Greta asked if I wanted to do it, I was like, ‘if she wants me to clean the floors in the studio I’ll do it’.

“I think that movie is going to be one of the best movies ever made,” she went on.

“I’m not just saying it, it’s so brilliantly clever, so camp, insane and it’s got so much heart.

“Greta is a genius so to be in it for two seconds, I couldn’t be more excited.”

The Galway native, who had also been busy filming season three of Bridgerton for Netflix, went on to lift the lid on her time shooting Barbie, including why she turned down the opportunity to meet Gosling.

She explained: “I was on set one day and Ryan Gosling was there. I had met Margot [Robbie], met Greta [Gerwig] but Ryan was there with no top on.

“They asked if I wanted to meet him, and I was like, ‘I can’t. I’m a human. I know my limits. I can’t meet a shirtless Ryan Gosling, I can’t do it’.”

The film, directed by Gerwig and co-written by Noah Baumbach, is due to be released in cinemas in July.

Helen Mirren, Emma Mackey, Kate McKinnon, and Will Ferrell also make up the large and impressive ensemble.

It also stars Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Hari Nef, and Kingsley Ben-Adir playing alternate versions of Barbie and Ken.
