Marvel has officially unveiled supervillain Sabretooth in Deadpool & Wolverine via a new trailer that teases a rematch years in the making.
The new trailer, below, shows Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine chomping at the bit to stick his claws into long-running rival Sabretooth, with the Merc with a Mouth cheerleading from the sidelines.
Sabretooth, played by Tyler Mane, was of course one of the first mutants seen in the X-Men movies. In the 2000 X-Men film, Sabretooth was little more than a Magneto henchman who had a brief scrap with Wolverine in a snowy forest. Now he’s back in multiverse shenanigans over 20 years later — and he seems just as angry.
In the trailer, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool references this lengthy gap before offering a few words of advice while pulling CGI swords out of Wolverine’s rapidly healing body. Wolverine and Sabretooth then sprint towards each other before the trailer ends.
This trailer isn’t fans’ first look at Sabretooth in Deadpool & Wolverine, as leaked set photos offered a glimpse at the fight back in December last year. One image showed Deadpool carrying Sabretooth’s severed head, suggesting Sabretooth’s time in the MCU may be short-lived.
There’s plenty more speculation about what to expect from Deadpool & Wolverine, the only MCU movie of 2024, based on what we’ve seen so far. It comes out July 26.
