Welcome to your end-of-week recap of everything new on Netflix US! It’s been a busy week with 31 new releases in total (18 new movies and 13 new series) hitting the library. Below, we’ll pick out our favorite new additions and break down what’s been dominating the Netflix Top 10 charts.
Of course, if you’re reading this soon after publication, we’re just a few hours away from Netflix going live once again with Gina Carano going up against Ronda Rousey! If you’re catching this later, you’ll already know exactly who won, but fear not—a full replay will be available on Netflix to stream on demand.
Live events aside, it’s been an incredibly solid mid-May week for the streaming service, heavily bolstered by a massive comedy live event, the return of iconic anime properties, and a healthy dose of true crime. As always, you can find more on what’s coming up throughout the rest of May 2026 here, plus we’re tracking June 2026 arrivals here.
Here are our three highlights of the week:
Best New Movies and Shows on Netflix This Week
Black Phone 2 (2025)
Type: Movie
Genre: Horror, Thriller | Runtime: 1h 42m
Thanks to Netflix’s relatively fresh and ongoing first-window output deal with Universal Pictures, the highly anticipated horror sequel Black Phone 2 has officially hit the service this weekend. Continuing the terrifying lore established in the hit first film, this is the perfect popcorn thriller to queue up with the lights off this weekend. Expect this one to shoot straight to the top of the movie charts by Monday.
The sequel once again picked up rave reviews across the board, with it showcasing a Certified Fresh rating. Among the chorus of positive reviews included Bilge Ebiri for Vulture, who wrote, “What’s notable about Black Phone 2 is how unlike The Black Phone it is in some ways. That may provoke disappointment from some quarters, but it also makes for a unique, unexpected experience.”

Slow West (2015)
Type: Movie
Genre: Western, Drama | Runtime: 1h 24m
If you missed this underrated A24 indie gem a decade ago, it’s finally back on Netflix US. Starring Michael Fassbender and Kodi Smit-McPhee, this beautifully shot western follows a young Scottish man traveling across the ruthless 19th-century American frontier in search of the woman he loves, guided by a mysterious bounty hunter. It’s concise, stylish, and an absolute must-watch for fans of the genre looking for something a bit more off-the-beaten-path.

Goat (2026)
Type: Movie
Genre: Animation, Family, Sports
Making its streaming debut, Goat is a breezy, feel-good animated sports movie that perfectly balances heart, humor, and spectacular animation. Featuring a star-studded voice cast that includes Caleb McLaughlin and Stephen Curry[3], this PG-rated adventure is the ultimate family movie night pick for this weekend. As expected, it’s already generating strong numbers, currently sitting comfortably at #8 in the Top 10 movies chart.
