A 2021 horror mystery film, The Deep House, has Netflix fans advising others to take measures when watching such as not to watch alone and noting their “anxiety skyrocket”

There’s an old horror film that has Netflix fans warning potential viewers.

The Deep House is a 2021 horror film previously on the streaming service has people talking. The film follows recently engaged couple and YouTubers Ben (James Jagger) and Tina (Camille Rowe) who travel across Europe in search of allegedly haunted houses as content for their channel. They record their live reactions and experiences in said spaces. Their travels take them to south-west France to look for a submerged sanatorium in an artificial lake.

Things took a turn when the couple discovered horrible surprises in the pursuit of making content and deal with a limited air supply. The French film, which is in English, was co-directed by French filmakers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo. Blumhouse Production known for horror hits such as Get Out as well as M3GAN and Epix distributed the film to North America.

Fans took to social media to share their thoughts about the underwater horror film that spooked them. One viewer warned: ‘[Do not] watch it alone” A second viewer said: “My anxiety for closed spaces and deep water went up while watching this last year”. Another said on Reddit in response to a thread calling it a “the hidden gem of this decade”. “Agreed. I love it. The classic haunted house escape set up made even more stressful by the depleting oxygen. So good. And what an ending!”

The Deep Blue host has gotten a 74 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer, making it fresh for the critics. Dennis Harvey wrote in a review for Variety in November that: ” A haunted house tale whose clammy underwater setting provides the chills.” He also added: “The tension provided by dank claustrophobia and threat of suffocation, as air supplies dwindle, makes this house a very scary place to be.”

Another critic Meagan Navarro for Bloody Disgusting wrote in her November 2021 review that: “The Deep House more than unsettles through an eerie, otherworldly atmosphere and an exhilarating new twist to the haunted house.”

Meagan also wrote: “The underwater setting gives an otherworldly, eerie quality unlike anything else and makes the house’s ghosts all the more startling.”

On the audience side though, while some folks have enjoyed the movie. The film on the audience side had 32% which makes it Rotten. There were many compliments about the underwater nature of the film and how cool it was to incorporate that in the horror genre specially with the haunted house. One fan praised the film saying: “Loved this concept. The shots are cool and the plot is compelling.” A second RT user said: “Impressive that they shot it under water, but very boring.” Another said: “Awful film, badly written and acted, the dialogue between the two divers is God awful. Cool underwater shots but that’s about it.”

While the opinions differs, viewers can make up there decision and decide if dive in the dark depths of The Deep House. And take the warning especially if they have a fear of bodies of water.
