Mike Tyson Names ‘Beautiful’ Heavyweight As His Toughest Ever Opponent: “It Was A Great Era”

Mike Tyson was one of the most fearsome heavyweights of his era.

The Brooklyn fighter was the youngest ever man to become a world heavyweight champion aged just 19. He went on an incredible run of knockouts early in his career before a shock upset loss to Buster Douglas. He also fought the likes of Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno and Larry Holmes, eventually retiring with a record of 50 wins, 44 by knockout, and six losses.

He is scheduled to return to the ring in November for a controversial bout with Jake Paul despite not having fought professionally for 19 years, and now being 58 years old. The contest, which was delayed four months when Tyson had an ulcer fare up, takes place over eight two-minute rounds and will appear on both men’s records.

Speaking to Full Send Podcast, he was asked who was the toughest opponent of his career and he went with his old foe Evander Holyfield.

Tyson’s bouts with Holyfield are amongst the most infamous events in all of sport. The pair are now unlikely friends almost 30 years on from when they notoriously clashed back in the ’90s.

It was 1996 when Holyfield beat Tyson for the WBA title, and a year later came the rematch during which Tyson bit off a chunk of his opponent’s ear.
