Fans worried that Tommy Norris might be the next major casualty on Landman can apparently relax. According to Billy Bob Thornton, he thinks series creator Taylor Sheridan plans to keep him around.

Speaking at the Newport Beach TV Fest, Thornton addressed growing fan speculation about Tommy’s future after a pair of dramatic seasons filled with deaths, betrayals, cartel threats, and corporate warfare. While he stopped short of revealing any plot details, Thornton made it clear he does not expect Tommy to disappear anytime soon. “I think Taylor [Sheridan] is going to let me hang around,” he said to Us Weekly.

The comments arrive as anticipation continues building for Season 3, which Thornton recently confirmed will begin filming in North Texas later this summer. They also help answer one of the biggest questions hanging over the series after Season 2’s finale, which left Tommy in a precarious position despite successfully launching his new venture, CTT Oil.

Landman has never been shy about removing major players from the board. Season 1 shocked viewers when oil magnate Monty Miller, played by Jon Hamm, died after a series of health setbacks. His death reshaped the show’s entire power structure, eventually putting Tommy at the center of M-Tex Oil before his dramatic split from the company in Season 2.

What happens next remains tightly guarded. Cast members have repeatedly admitted they know very little about Sheridan’s plans. Ali Larter, who plays Angela Norris, recently said she has stopped trying to predict where the story is heading. “I really can’t even assume or try to guess what Taylor is going to imagine for season 3,” she said, noting that the cast has now spent enough time together to fully understand the dynamics between their characters.

Andy Garcia, whose Danny Gallino emerged as one of the series’ most dangerous figures, expressed a similar view. “I’m in Taylor’s hands,” Garcia said. “I’m in it to win it.”

Thornton has embraced that uncertainty as part of the creative process. He recently revealed that Sheridan often withholds scripts until the last possible moment, a strategy Thornton says mirrors real life. “Because in real life, you don’t know what’s gonna happen next,” he explained.

The actor has also predicted that Season 3 could blend the danger and tension of Season 1 with the family drama and business intrigue that defined Season 2.

Beyond Tommy’s survival, Thornton used the opportunity to once again defend Sheridan’s work as Emmy conversations heat up around Landman. “He writes great stuff,” Thornton said. “He’s created quite an empire.”
