As Deadpool & Wolverine is closing in on its theatrical release, Marvel Cinematic Universe boss Kevin Feige looks back on the set leaks during the film’s production. Despite only having one Marvel release in 2024, the MCU is about to have one of its most important chapters in The Multiverse Saga. With Deadpool & Wolverine bringing Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman back as their respective Marvel icons, the movie will be one of the biggest events for the franchise to this point.
While speaking to Variety, Feige was asked what his thoughts were on the Deadpool & Wolverine set photos that made their way online when the movie was being filmed at practical locations. The President of Marvel Studios called it “important” for the creative team to be able to shoot at real locations, and stated he isn’t too worried about paparazzi shots and drones having gotten various glimpses of the Phase 5 installment, sharing the following:
That was very important to us. We didn’t want this to be a green screen box for all of the locations. We want it to be out in the real world, and that always comes with potential tradeoffs. We were in a lot of secure locations and places that were far away from prying eyes — with the exception of drones. It was a new experience for me to have paparazzi drones flying over set. Sometimes things look cool in a behind-the-scenes photo, but most often, they don’t look great. I think people are savvy enough over the years to know that’s not what it will look like in the movie. That being said, Wolverine in that yellow outfit looks cool from any angle, drone or shot through the trees.
Why Kevin Feige Is Right About The Deadpool & Wolverine Set Leaks

There are a lot of reasons why Feige’s sentiments about Deadpool & Wolverine are incredibly valid in light of what has been shared through set images. One of the things that has been heavily discussed in Hollywood is the massive dependence on CGI and visual effects while leaning away from practical effects and aspects at the same time, which has sometimes led to a finished product looking too unreal. As such, allowing Deadpool & Wolverine to rely more on practical locations and set pieces can allow the movie to feel more authentic.
Even though there were a lot of Deadpool & Wolverine set photos shared over the last year, it hasn’t necessarily spoiled anything too drastic. While a few Deadpool & Wolverine cameos may have been unveiled during this time, it has been made very clear that there are a lot more surprises in store with the film that has yet to land online. Unless Marvel Studios decides to unveil more themselves through upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine promos, the audience will still be able to have plenty to look forward to in a few weeks.
Time will tell who else may be showing up in Deadpool & Wolverine, given the many rumors that have floated around over the last couple of months. But needless to say, no matter how many surprise appearances are being kept under wraps, the most important thing for Deadpool & Wolverine is to be a solid story for the two leads. As Deadpool & Wolverine is almost ready for its theatrical release, the MCU audience will know soon enough just how many other secrets Marvel Studios have managed to keep hidden.
