Jaÿ-Z and Eminem Set to Reunite on Upcoming Rakim, Kurupt and Masta Killa Album

Two of hip-hop’s most celebrated lyricists are finally sharing a track again — sort of.

According to Rolling Stone, JAŸ-Z and Eminem will appear together on an upcoming song from rap pioneer Rakim’s forthcoming collaborative album with Kurupt and Masta Killa. While fans hoping for a full-fledged sequel to 2001’s “Renegade” may need to temper expectations, the track nevertheless marks the first time the two icons have appeared on the same recording in 25 years.

News of the collaboration surfaced when A&R exec/producer Matthew “M80” Markoff posted a handwritten track list from the project on Instagram. One entry appeared to identify both JAŸ-Z and Eminem as contributors, immediately setting off speculation across hip-hop circles.

Markoff subsequently confirmed to Rolling Stone that the collaboration is real, though it won’t take the form many listeners might expect. Rather than trading bars, JAŸ-Z and Eminem will reportedly appear on an interlude paying tribute to Rakim’s influence on rap music. Markoff told the publication that neither artist contributes a traditional verse.

Even so, the pairing carries obvious historical weight. The last time JAŸ-Z and Eminem appeared together was on “Renegade,” the standout The Blueprint cut that sparked one of hip-hop’s longest-running barbershop debates about who outshined who.

Meanwhile, the Rakim/Kurupt/Masta Killa album is scheduled for release on Aug. 28 and boasts additional guests including Snoop Dogg, KRS-One, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Buckshot and Daz Dillinger. Markoff told Rolling Stone that the interlude featuring JAŸ-Z and Eminem will lead into the first solo Rakim track produced by the rapper himself in more than 15 years. He added that all material on the album was recorded within the last two years.

The project builds on the chemistry established by Rakim, Kurupt and Masta Killa on “BE ILL,” which appeared on Rakim’s 2024 album G.O.D.’s NETWORK – REB7RTH. The new collection will also include a posthumous executive production credit for Wu-Tang Clan associate Oliver “Power” Grant.
