After Lionel Richie was hospitalized following a medical incident on the opening night of his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, the singer’s ex-wife, Brenda Harvey Richie, shared on X an update on her former husband’s condition.
Shortly after news broke of Richie’s hospitalization in Minnesota, Harvey Richie posted to social media updating fans on the 77-year-old’s health.
“Thanking everyone for their concern! Lionel is OK and will be back on the stage,” said Harvey Richie, who was married to the “All Night Long” performer and American Idol judge from 1975-1993.

Harvey Richie additionally reshared a fan’s response that addressed some who urged the singer-songwriter to retire amid the medical incident.
“He is iconic. He does NOT need anyone telling him when to quit,” the fan wrote before Harvey Richie shared the sentiment.
Representatives for Richie did not reply to Entertainment Weekly’s requests for comment after last week’s incident at the concert.
Earlier, video captured inside St. Paul’s Grand Casino Arena showed Richie sitting down on stage to perform a rendition of “Dancing on the Ceiling,” telling the crowd he felt dizzy during the set.
“What I have learned about my years of being in the business. When you are feeling dizzy, sit your ass down. And when you are feeling strange about yourself, sit your ass down!” he told the crowd afterward.
He continued, joking, “Now, I want you to know, that’s the first time in the history of ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ I’ve done it sitting down. That’s a bad sign, y’all.”

Richie again sat down at the piano to sing “Three Times a Lady,” and went on an early intermission afterward. A member of the band, saxophonist Dino Soldo, later walked out and told concertgoers that Richie wouldn’t return to the stage.
“Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows on Friday, June 26 in Chicago, IL and Saturday, June 27 in Columbus, OH. He and Earth, Wind & Fire will return to the stage on Tuesday, June 30 in Pittsburgh, PA,” read a subsequent statement from tour company LiveNation.
“Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes fans who have tickets for these two shows. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon,” the statement continued.
