Ron in Bridgerton-style AI-generated Harry Potter art.

Harry Potter‘s Yule Ball is re-imagined with Bridgerton-style Regency-era flair courtesy of some new AI-generated art. Based on the novels by author J.K. Rowling, the Harry Potter film franchise began in 2001, introducing audiences to Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry, Rupert Grint’s Ron, and Emma Watson’s Hermione. A number of significant events from the books are brought to life to stunning effect in the movies, including the Yule Bale, which features in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Now, following the announcement of a new Harry Potter TV show, AI-generated art shared by Mystic Draws AI on Instagram imagines what the franchise’s Yule Ball would look like with some style inspiration from Netflix’s Bridgerton. The art includes new takes on Harry, Ron, Draco, Hermione, Luna, Ginny, Padma, and Cho. Check out the AI art below:

Harry Potter’s Yule Ball Was Perfect

The Harry Potter movies may have been forced to omit a number of details from the books upon which they were based, but they do largely nail the core story. Crucially, the movies also present a stunning visual depiction of Rowling’s world and fully realized, empathetic, and relatable characters. While perhaps not the most beloved of the eight main films, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire uses these elements to great effect, especially when it comes to the Yule Ball.

Although Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s fight against Voldemort is at the center of the Harry Potter saga, the characters also mature over the course of the story and experience stuff that all teenagers experience. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is largely the first film in the franchise to dive into how Harry, Hermione, and Ron are dealing with puberty, having crushes on people, and basically just being awkward teenagers. The Yule Ball sets the action aside for a moment to build out the core three characters in a new, highly relatable way.

The Yule Ball may take place in a magical castle and feature a headlining performance from an epic rock band, but the general atmosphere isn’t all that different from a high school dance or prom, which kids all around the world will be familiar with. While it’s certainly interesting to imagine a Bridgerton-style version of this scene, the Harry Potter Yule Ball largely works so well because, despite its magical setting, it presents an awkward, funny, and even somewhat embarrassing teenage experience that feels universal.
