German warrior David Raum praises Spain for flying high before the EURO 2024 quarter-final match with Germany

The left back knows just how good Spain have been at the Euros thus far.

When Georgia took the lead against Spain in the 18th minute of their Round of 16 tie in Cologne by virtue of an own goal off of Robin Le Normand, it looked as if EURO 2024 could be in for yet another upset. However, that was far from the case and Spain cruised to a 4-1 win, booking their place in the quarterfinals of the competition, where they are set to take on Germany in Stuttgart. It will be a meeting between two of the most in-form sides of the tournament in what could well and truly be billed as a final, but the way the brackets unfolded means that this encounter will have to settle for being a quarterfinal clash.

Ahead of the tie, David Raum was asked how he felt about the Spanish side at the tournament thus far and their pair of stars; Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, plus his RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo. Star players aside, the defender praised how well their entire squad has been playing all tournament.

“I think they are two top players, but not just those two. The whole Spanish team is very well equipped. You watch the games and you can see what ideas these guys have. They are never really predictable, but you have to find a way to stop the whole Spanish team. The coaches will come up with a good plan,” Raum explained in high praise of Spain (via @iMiaSanMia). “(Olmo is) a very good friend of mine, we play on the same side in Leipzig. I enjoy playing with him. He’s hard to stop, an incredible player. But we’ll find a way.”

At the Euros thus far, Spain have looked convincing, particularly in their wins over Croatia (3-0) and Georgia (4-1). Their 1-0 win over Albania saw a slightly weakened starting eleven fielded by Luis de la Fuente since they had already guaranteed their advancement to the round of 16. So far, they have won four matches from four, scored nine goals, and have only conceded once, which was the own goal against Georgia.

Without a doubt, Spain will be Germany’s toughest test yet at the tournament and Julian Nagelsmann will have some difficult personnel decisions to make for that match this weekend. Raum had come in for Maximilian Mittelstädt for the 2-0 win over Denmark and likewise Nico Schlotterbeck for Jonathan Tah. Both Raum and Schlotterbeck had incredible performances, as did Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sané, who was picked to start over Florian Wirtz for that match by Nagelsmann.
