What happened, and why is John Legend leaving The Voice for season 30? As it turns out, he has a good reason for it…and he already alluded to it earlier than folks realized.

Back in January 2026, John surprised fans by announcing he was embarking on a new tour for the year. Titled A Night of Songs and Stories, the singer shared that he’d be performing across the United States beginning on March 18. And while the bulk of the tour wraps up in May, John’s official website notes that he’ll be taking his music around the world, with performances in Europe before making it back stateside throughout the summer.

“I’m excited to bring A Night of Songs & Stories back—just you and me, the piano, and the stories behind the songs,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “This is one of my favorite things to do; there’s something really special about these nights. Come spend the evening with me.”

Upon hearing the news about John’s career, many were excited at the prospect of seeing him sing onstage.

“I will be attending!” one person wrote in the comments. “Man…I hope to catch you live one day,” another penned. “Totally amazing 😌,” a different follower added.

Now, we can see why this would be a good explanation for John’s exit from The Voice for season 30. But given how he’s popped in and out as a coach over the last decade, we’re sure it’s only a matter of time before we see him come back to the show.
