“People don’t really want me to look like anything else than Gabriel,” the French actor told PEOPLE at the series’ season four premiere

Lucas Bravo is entering his long hair era.

At the season four premiere of Emily in Paris, the 36-year-old French actor, who recently debuted a new shaggy style, told PEOPLE that fans of the show don’t always love when he changes up his look.

“I feel like every time I try to be myself and let things grow, people don’t really want me to look like anything else than Gabriel,” he said on the red carpet on Wednesday, Aug. 14. “But I don’t really take the clean-shaven short cut look, I’m more about letting things grow.”

Bravo also shared that his new look was for a role. “I’m shooting Dangerous Liaisons for HBO and there’s going to be a lot of sword fighting, horse riding, and a beautiful mustache and long hair,” he said.

On the hit Netflix show, Bravo portrays Gabriel, and up-and-coming Parisian chef and a love interest of Emily Cooper (Lily Collins). While doing press for the upcoming season, which hits the streaming platform on Thursday, Aug. 15, the actor debuted his longer hairstyle.

Fans got a good look at the ‘do in a cast interview with InStyle shared on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Bravo’s light brown hair is parted in the middle and frames his face in a long, feathered style. He’s also sporting a mustache and a short beard.

During the filming of the video interview, an earthquake unexpectedly hit the Los Angeles set — yet Bravo’s long locks stayed perfectly in place.

“That was an earthquake,” Bravo said as his castmate, Ashley Park, was responding a question. “I thought you were kicking my chair this whole time,” Park replied.

“Yeah there’s an earthquake…” Bravo repeated before adding, “It’s still shaking. I want to look out the window.”

A departure from his Emily in Paris character’s clean-shaven look, Bravo has been appearing more rugged in recent months. In June, he attended the International Biarritz Film Festival in France with a swept-back hair style as well as a mustache and beard.
