Deadpool & Wolverine villain actor reveals a request that Marvel Studios wouldn’t approve for the Marvel Cinematic Universe film. With Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox, one of the last remaining players in the X-Men movie universe is making the jump over to Marvel Studios as Deadpool is finally joining the MCU. Ryan Reynolds will not only reprise the role of Deadpool, but he will finally get the Marvel team-up that he and many fans have been wanting to see for years with Hugh Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Emma Corrin opens up about how they were ready to undergo a major physical transformation for Deadpool & Wolverine. However, when they requested a personal trainer, Marvel Studios told the actor it wasn’t necessary. Corrin revealed the following:
Why Emma Corrin Didn’t Need A Physical Transformation To Play Cassandra Nova
Corrin elaborated in the same interview about playing the Marvel villain Cassandra Nova in Deadpool & Wolverine and why a physical transformation wasn’t necessary, per Marvel Studios. While talking about bringing Cassandra to life in the MCU, Corrin revealed a surprising inspiration for their portrayal of the villain that was brought up by Reynolds and director Shawn Levy. According to Corrin, Levy, and Reynolds had looked to Christopher Waltz’s performance of Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.
This was a sentiment that Corrin agreed with, as they stated, “He’s so disarmingly polite and nice and unaffected, and it’s really creepy. It’s all the more sinister because he doesn’t need to do anything.” To this point, Cassandra has only been featured briefly in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailers. However, it has been made very clear that she is a force to be reckoned with in the Deadpool & Wolverine story.
Since Deadpool & Wolverine will be the first time Cassandra Nova is adapted from the comics, it will be exciting to see the MCU’s spin on the character. With her ties to Charles Xavier, as she is canonically his sister (sort of), time will tell how Deadpool & Wolverine will tackle that aspect of her character. The world will know in a matter of weeks what kind of impact she will have in Deadpool & Wolverine as the film finally arrives in theaters this month.
