What an amazing season Bridgerton season 3 was! After several ups and downs, Colin and Penelope got their happy ending after all, and now we’re looking forward to seeing their stories continue in the upcoming Bridgerton season 4.
Like previous seasons, the fourth season will focus on a brand new couple. Now, who that couple will be remains to be seen. Many fans have speculated that either Benedict, Francesca, or Eloise will lead the fourth season, but neither Netflix nor the show’s creative team has said anything yet. We’re expecting the new lead to be announced soon. The season 3 lead was announced only a couple of months after season 2 dropped, so this could happen with the upcoming season. Once this juicy information is released, we’ll definitely make sure to share it with you right away.
But with the focus shifting to a new couple in season 4, what does this mean for Colin and Penelope? Well, it means that they won’t be getting as much screen time as they did in season 3. According to Bridgerton season 3 showrunner Jess Brownell, this beloved couple will be taking “more of a backseat to next season’s leads.” However, no one should be shocked by this information. We saw this happen with season 1 couple Daphne and Simon, as well as season 2 couple Anthony and Kate.
It makes sense that Colin and Penelope won’t be getting much screen time because otherwise, they would be taking away from the main couple in season 4. We just hope that they’ll get more screen time in the fourth season than the couple from season 1, or should I say Daphne, in season 2. Remember when Daphne briefly appeared in season 2? It seemed like she only appeared a couple of times. While Anthony and Kate’s scenes in season 3 seemed rushed, at least they got more screen time than Daphne in season 2.
When it comes to what Colin and Penelope will be up to in Bridgerton season 4, Brownell tells Variety that fans will see Penelope navigating new obstacles coming her way in her career as Lady Whistledown. She didn’t speak on what fans can expect to see from Colin in season 4, though. However, since Colin has his author career and he and Penelope have a new bundle of joy, we’ll most likely see him trying to balance everything while also trying to be there for his siblings.
Spoilers from Bridgerton season 3 ahead!
It’ll be interesting to see where the rest of the Bridgerton siblings end up in season 4. The third season ends with Benedict deciding to break things off with Tilley, Francesca marrying John and heading off to his Scotland estate, Anthony and a pregnant Kate planning to visit India, Eloise tagging along with Francesca and John to Scotland, and Hyacinth and Gregory just being kids. We can’t wait to see how all their stories continue in the upcoming fourth season!
