In season 3, the costume department, led by the visionary John Glaser, takes the show’s aesthetic to new heights, pushing boundaries and embracing artistic ambition. This season, they weren’t just crafting costumes; they were painting emotions, weaving dreams, and giving voice to the characters’ inner journeys.

One of the most striking transformations is Penelope Featherington’s evolution from a wallflower in yellow to a confident woman in muted, sophisticated tones.  “She’s had enough of her family and the control,” reveals Associate Costume Designer George Sayer. The citrus hues that once defined her are gone, replaced by softer shades that mirror her newfound independence.

This visual shift is deliberate, echoing Penelope’s desire to blend into the background, to observe and gather information without drawing attention to herself.

The vibrant greens and oranges of her past are replaced with rusts and greens, a subtle ombre effect that symbolizes her metamorphosis.

But this transformation goes beyond color.  Penelope’s hair, once tightly curled and restrained, now flows freely, inspired by icons like Rita Hayworth and Marilyn Monroe. It’s a reflection of her inner liberation, a symbol of her shedding societal constraints and embracing her true self.
