With the introduction of the new character Edwina Sharma in Bridgerton season 2, some viewers might wonder how old she is. Netflix’s Bridgerton focuses on the Bridgerton family as they navigate the social scene in Regency Era London, but there are also side characters who are also trying to make their way in society. Edwina becomes a big player in Bridgerton season 2, so her character is definitely one of interest.

In Bridgerton season 2, Edwina, along with her older sister Kate (Simone Ashley) and mother Mary (Shelley Conn), travel to London during the next social season with the goal of finding Edwina a suitable match. Since Mary caused a stir years ago by marrying a man without a title, Edwina’s grandparents are insisting she marry an Englishman of noble rank. After Bridgerton‘s Queen Charlotte (Golda Roshuvel) names Edwina (Charithra Chandran) the Diamond of the social season, Anthony, who is looking for the perfect woman to be his wife, is immediately interested in her. He sets out to court Edwina and make her his wife, though he faces resistance from her older sister Kate (Simone Ashley), who hates him.

So how old is Edwina Sharma? According to the books, Edwina is 17 years old. While her age isn’t explicitly stated in Netflix’s Bridgerton adaptation, it’s safe to assume that the Edwina in the TV series is around the same age. However, it’s also possible that Edwina is 18 like Eloise – arguably the show’s best character – who also makes her debut into society in Bridgerton season 2. Edwina being in her late teens would make sense, as she proves to be rather naïve about matters of love and doesn’t realize that Anthony doesn’t truly love her until their wedding day. As a teen, it would make perfect sense that Edwina falls in love with the fantasy of marrying the perfect man instead of realizing what she truly wants. It’s also logical to assume that Edwina is in her late teens because that was a reasonable age period for young women to make their debut in Regency Era society.  Meanwhile, actress Charithra Chandran, born in 1997, is 25.

Anthony, the Bridgerton family’s viscount, is 30 years old in Bridgerton season 2, which would make him about 14 years older than Edwina. In the 1800s, age gaps like this weren’t questioned in relationships, and Edwina’s age was likely not a deterrent to Anthony in his pursuit of a wife. Couples with age gaps have worked in Bridgerton before; for example, Simon is 8 years older than Daphne. However, it is unlikely that Anthony and Edwina would’ve truly worked out, especially because the two of them don’t have a true romantic connection. The older and more mature Kate is a much better match for him.

Though she is 21 in the books, Kate in Bridgerton season 2 is a few years older. Lady Danbury, who the Sharmas are staying with, says that Kate would be considered “an old maid” at her age, 26. Back in 1814, when Bridgerton season 2 is set, women were encouraged to marry young. Kate, who is not that far away from 30, would be seen as an unappealing marriage prospect due to her age. In Bridgerton season 2, Kate is about 8 years older than Edwina. The age gap between the half-sisters is a probable reason why Kate is so protective of Edwina. Edwina is her little sister, and Kate doesn’t want an older, rakish man like Anthony taking advantage of her.

It is unclear whether or not Edwina will return for Bridgerton season 3. Simone Ashley has been vocal about wanting to return as Kate for future seasons, so hopefully, there will be more of the Sharma sisters in the future, as it would be fun to see more of Edwina and how her new life is going.
