UFC welterweight title contender, Belal Muhammad, has started a surprising feud with current middleweight champion, Dricus Du Plessis, claiming that the South African ‘sucks’.

Belal Muhammad is currently preparing for the biggest fight of his career thus far, as he takes on welterweight champion, Leon Edwards, in a rematch at UFC 304 on July 27th.

Ahead of his fight against ‘Rocky’, Muhammad had been supporting his teammate and lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, for his recent UFC 302 main event against Dustin Poirier.

Following Makhachev’s third title defense, ‘Remember The Name’ claimed that the Russian champion could jump straight up to middleweight and beat Dricus Du Plessis for a second belt.

Dricus Du Plessis and Belal Muhammad continue online exchange

Responding to Muhammad’s claim that Makhachev could beat him, Du Plessis said: “Oh, now I see why the world thinks he’s a loser, last fan checking out.”

‘Stillknocks’ is growing in frustration as the UFC is still yet to announce his first title defense, with it rumored to be against Israel Adesanya at UFC 305 on August 18, in Perth, Australia.

The 30-year-old has admitted that he has agreed to the opponent and location, and so has questioned what the hold-up is.

Despite them both preparing for their respective fights, Muhammad has bitten back at the South African, claiming that he ‘sucks’ and that he wants to fight him once he’s won the welterweight title.

“I was trying to be nice about it (by saying Islam could beat Du Plessis), but honestly, Du Plessis sucks, if I’m being honest about it,” Muhammad admitted on Remember the show.

“Now you’re putting your head in the mix with me, so I beat Leon (Edwards) now that just sets the table for this fight right here if he gets past Adesanya,” the welterweight added.

Muhammad also claimed on X, that Du Plessis would be his ‘easiest path to double champ status’.

Leon Edwards is also hopeful of fighting for a second belt

Muhammad, though, needs to deal with the tough puzzle that is Leon Edwards first, before he can talk about winning a second belt.

The Brit has recently mapped out his plans for the next year and a half, stating that his dream is to become a double champion too.

Despite that, ‘Rocky’ has admitted that he still has work to do in his own division, before he can consider moving up a weight class, and wants to defend his title a few more times.

“My plan is to chase greatness, I feel like defending my belt in my division is not exciting for me, my excitement is me getting another belt so my plan is to (move up) next year. Defend my belt twice this year and then maybe one more (defense) next year then later in the year have a big middleweight fight,” Edwards recently told Sky Sports.
