BEHIND-THE-SCENES DRAMA: Wednesday Season 2 underwent massive cast changes — and fans are finally learning why
Secrets, creative shake-ups, and shocking departures turned the set into a whirlwind of controversy.
👉 The full story behind the casting chaos will leave you speechless…

Can’t wait for Lady Gaga
Season two of Wednesday is finally here (or at least, half of it is). But the people kicking around Nevermore look very different. Netflix made lots of changes to the cast of Wednesday season two. Here’s a handy guide to all the big changes to the cast in season two of Wednesday, plus the reasons why some characters didn’t come back.
Percy Hynes White is not back as Xavier
Nope, Xavier won’t be in Wednesday season two. In the show, the headteacher spells out that Xavier now goes to another school.
Back in January 2023, someone on X accused Percy Hynes White of sexual assault. She claimed Hynes White and his friends threw parties in Toronto so they could give drugs and alcohol to underage girls, then have sex with them.
Percy Hynes White denied these allegations. He wrote on Instagram: “Earlier this year, somebody I’ve never met started a campaign of misinformation about me online. Because of this, my family has been doxxed, and my friends have received death threats. Underage photos of me were used, and examples of me acting in character were presented as hateful. My friend Jane was falsely portrayed as a victim, and her attempts to set the record straight have been ignored. She gave me permission to include her in this message.
“The rumours are false. I can’t accept the portrayal of me as someone bigoted, or criminally negligent of people’s safety. These are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust toward victims.”
In May 2024, it became apparent that Percy Hynes White wouldn’t be in season two.
Lurch is played by somebody new
You might not have even noticed, but the Addams family’s creepy butler is played by a different actor in season two. George Burcea, who portrayed Lurch in season one, announced in April 2024 that he was exiting the show for “personal and managerial reasons”.
In Wednesday season two, Joonas Suotamo plays Lurch. This actor actually played Chewbacca in the four most recent Star Wars movies (but you probably didn’t recognise him without the big furry onesie).
A gazillion famous people have joined the cast
Lady Gaga will appear in the second half of season two as “the mysterious and enigmatic Rosaline Rotwood, a legendary Nevermore teacher who crosses paths with Wednesday”. Fans have theorised she might be a ghost who advises Wednesday.
Billie Piper plays Isadora Capri, the werewolf music teacher who Wednesday is sus about. And Joanna Lumley plays a Joanna Lumley character – in this case, Morticia’s mother.
Quite a few Nevermore students won’t in season two
Remember Yoko? Enid’s bestie before Wednesday took over her life? She won’t be appearing in Wednesday season two. The actor, Naomi J Ogawa, explained on Instagram why she wouldn’t be reprising her role. She chose not to come back because of “uncertain scheduling” and because she felt there was “not much progression in Yoko’s journey” planned for season two.
The actors who portrayed Bianca’s friend Divina and the local bully Lucas Walker don’t appear in any published cast lists, so it seems these characters won’t be appearing in Wednesday season two. Maybe their characters weren’t needed for the story of this season, or the actors were busy with other projects?
Wednesday is available on Netflix now. For all the latest Netflix news and drops, like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
