The Madison Season 2: Everything We Know About the Returning Taylor Sheridan Series

Emerson Miller/Paramount+

Bring onĀ The MadisonĀ season 2!Ā Taylor Sheridan’s newest seriesĀ dropped the final three episodes of its first season on Saturday, March 21, and now the question is: When will season 2 premiere? What will happen on it? And the Clyburns are all moving to Montana, right?

Let’s back up (and consider this your fair warning to stop reading if you haven’t finished season 1 yet). In episode six, titled ā€œGive Me Permission,ā€ the Clyburns are back in New York following Preston (Kurt Russell) and Paul’s (Matthew Fox) burial. But as much asĀ they try to adjust to a new normal, it’s obvious nothing is going to resemble ā€œnormalā€ for a long time.

At work, Paige (Elle Chapman) punches a coworker who provokes her with truly unkind remarks about her father’s death. She’s arrested, but the charges are later dropped when Stacy (Michelle Pfeiffer) convinces the coworker not to move forward with the charges. Paige is thankfully off the hook, but she’s also now without a job.

Meanwhile, Abby (Beau Garrett) calls Van (Ben Schnetzer), the local Madison Valley sheriff, for advice regarding her sister, but it’s more of a chance to reconnect with the guy she can’t quite quit.

We also see Stacy confront her grief in various alcohol-fueled therapy sessions, thanks to her very charismatic and mysterious therapist, Phil Yorn (Will Arnett). He even joins her for emotional support at Preston’s memorial service, where he gives her the courage to ditch the gathering and focus on herself. As a result, she leaves her cell phone in her New York City penthouse and books a one-way flight to Bozeman, Montana. Upon arriving, she sees rancher and neighbor Cade (Kevin Zegers), who directs her to the local general store so she can stock up on all her needs. Stacy tells him she’s missed this place (same). It seems only a matter of time before Paige, Abby, Russell (Patrick J. Adams), Brigitte (Amiah Miller), and Macy (Alaina Pollack) realize they can’t function without Stacy.

So with season 2 ofĀ The MadisonĀ already confirmed—and filmed—when will the next season premiere? And what will happen to the Clyburns? Read on for everything we know.

When does season 2 ofĀ The MadisonĀ premiere?

Paramount+, which exclusively airsĀ The Madison,Ā has not announced a season 2 premiere date. Given that the episodes have already been filmed, however, our best guess is later this year or early next. What we know for sure is that the season will once again consist of six episodes, all of which are written by Taylor Sheridan and directed by Christina Alexandra Voros (who also serves as an EP and director of photography; readĀ our interview with her here).

Which cast members will return?

Even though Kurt Russell’s character, Preston, is only seen in flashbacks now, he will be back in season 2 along with Michelle Pfeiffer, Beau Garrett, Elle Chapman, Patrick J. Adams, Amiah Miller, Alaina Pollack, Ben Schnetzer, Kevin Zegers, Rebecca Spence, Danielle Vasinova, Matthew Fox, and Will Arnett.

Ben Schnetzer as Van Davis and Beau Garrett as Abigail Reese. One thing we know for sure about season 2? We’re gonna need more scenes with these two.

What is season 2 ofĀ The MadisonĀ about?

The first season takes place over six days; no word yet on whether there will be a time jump when the second season begins.

Christina Alexandra Voros, who directs all of seasons 1 and 2, tellsĀ Glamour,Ā ā€œThere are a lot of questions left to answerā€ at the end of the first season, and ā€œwhat Stacy is choosing is not a simple choice.ā€ Voros also admits that while season 1 was very heavy emotionally, she was delighted when she saw the scripts for season 2 because the sophomore season ā€œis a surprising next step for everyone.ā€

When season 1 ends, Stacy Clyburn is the only one back in Montana, though it seems it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the family follows. Amiah Miller, who plays Stacy’s granddaughter, Brigitte, tellsĀ GlamourĀ that while the Madison River Valley of central Montana is a big culture shock for her character, ā€œShe does learn to love Montana and falls in love with it. There’s a lot of exciting stuff that happens [in season 2] that I can’t wait for people to see.ā€

Will we find out more about Russell?

Patrick J. Adams plays Stacy and Preston’s son-in-law, Russell; in the first season, it’s hard to get a read on who he is and what he does. Adams is in the same boat, adding that Russell probably doesn’t really know who he is either.

ā€œI think he’s a guy who spent a lot of time just being whoever people around him need him to be,ā€ Adams says. ā€œThat’s sort of where you find him—he’s married to a very strong personality [in Paige], and he’s like, ā€˜I will attend to her every need.’ I’ve met people like that who are like, ā€˜Wow, I’m just in service,’ until life shakes things up and they realize, Oh, I have some work to do. Like, Who am I and what do I really want? He’s deciding and figuring out who he’s going to be moving forward.ā€

Will we see how Russell and Paige got together?

We have yet to find out how Russell and Paige’s romance unfolded, which is something we may see in a second season. What we do know is that Paige is 26; it hasn’t been established how old Russell is, but Patrick J. Adams is (a very young-looking) 44 and Elle Chapman is 28. Will that age gap in their romance be addressed? Does it even need to? When we brought it up to the actors, here’s how they responded:

Patrick J. Adams: I think it’s less about the age gap or exploring the early days of the relationship.

Elle Chapman:Ā No, let’s talk about the age gap.

Patrick J. Adams:Ā It’s not that bad. It’s more just about, I think, seeing who they become as they become more comfortable in this environment and as they…

Elle Chapman: …grew.

Patrick J. Adams: …settled. Like, Okay, [rural Montana] isn’t going to kill us necessarily, but it’s still not an easy place to live. Watching two people who are used to having all of their needs attended to by the city environment, watch who they become as they start becoming more comfortable there, I think you’ll learn a lot about them in that process.
