It looks like Landman fans may be waiting a little longer for Season 3 cameras to roll. After earlier reports suggested production would begin in May, star Billy Bob Thornton now says filming is expected to start at the end of August instead.
Thornton casually dropped the update during an appearance on Howie Mandel Does Stuff. As the interview wrapped, Mandel told viewers to keep an eye out for the next season of the hit Paramount+ drama. Thornton quickly responded: “We start season 3 at the end of August.”

The comment shifts the previously reported timeline for the Taylor Sheridan series. Earlier this year, co-creator Christian Wallace said production was targeting a May start date, while director Stephen Kay recently hinted that episodes were already being prepared quickly behind the scenes, explaining that the team was “cutting while we’re shooting” in hopes the new season would arrive “soon.”
Even with the delayed filming window, the series still appears positioned for a fast turnaround. Sheridan’s Paramount+ shows—including Special Ops: Lioness and The Madison—have become known for moving rapidly from production to release. The first two seasons of Landman both premiered in November, helping fuel expectations that Season 3 could still land sometime in late 2026 or early 2027.
The schedule shift also makes sense given how busy the cast has become. Thornton is heading out on tour this summer with his band, The Boxmasters, whose nationwide run stretches from late June into August. Meanwhile, Demi Moore is filming the thriller Tyrant, while Michelle Randolph is preparing to shoot the sci-fi survival film Homewrecker in France.
That growing attention around the cast mirrors the rise of Landman itself. What started as a gritty drama about West Texas oil culture has become one of Paramount+’s biggest breakout hits.
Season 2 ended with Tommy Norris being forced out of M-Tex Oil before launching a new company, CTT Oil, alongside Cooper and several loyal allies. The finale pulled in 15.8 million viewers in its first two days, setting a record for the platform.
The series has also found an unexpected second life online thanks to viral clips explaining oil pricing and rising gas costs. Thornton himself recently admitted the show’s global popularity surprised the cast, saying they originally thought it would mainly connect with audiences in “the middle of the country.”
Now, all eyes are on what comes next. Season 3 is expected to continue Tommy’s fight to rebuild his business as tensions over Cami Miller, cartel money, and the future of CTT Oil escalate.
