The final episode was full of twists
Sirens has shot to the top spot on Netflix, a dark comedy about the super rich that’s being compared to The White Lotus, but people are really confused by the ending.
In the final episode, we see Simone weirdly fall in love with Peter and become the new Mrs Kell, but what happens to her previous lover, Ethan?
Let’s start at the beginning. The duckie-blazer-wearing rich boy disappears after Kiki finds out about his relationship with Simone, and a is concerned about him. Around the same time, Simone has a strange dream that Ethan has fallen off a cliff and been impaled by a piece of wood, and we are led to believe he may be dead.
We then find out that nothing bad happened to him after all. He actually went to bring Simone’s dad to town as a romantic gesture so that he could propose to her in front of her father, but she awkwardly declines.
After that, Ethan gets really drunk and runs into Simone outside the house, right next to a steep cliff down that leads to the beach. He calls her a “monster” while walking dangerously close to the edge, and Simone tries to warn him about the cliff. However, the camera cuts away and he falls, just like in the dream.
The next day, he wakes up in the hospital and accuses Simone of pushing him. However, we never actually saw how he fell, so he could be lying. It’s left to the viewer to decide whether Ethan simply lost his balance and fell because he was drunk, or was indeed pushed by Simone.

After Ethan tells Simone to leave the hospital room, Peter comes in and tells him to be more respectful of her, and he then suspects something is going on between them. We later find out Ethan was right, and that’s the last we see of him.
As explained by Netflix’s Tudum, Ethan ended up feeling like he was “victimized” by Simone, who broke his heart, and Kiki, who encouraged Simone to do so.
“His attempt to blame these women for his problems is reflective of the sense of entitlement that often goes hand in hand with being a powerful, wealthy man who’s used to getting what he wants, when he wants it,” they said.
“And what happens when his fantasies don’t become a reality? His whole world crumbles right out from underneath his feet, and he needs to find someone to blame.”
Glenn Howerton, who plays Ethan, said he’s not a bad person. He just has a very “limited view of the world” and needs a massive “wake-up call” to find out who he really is.
